The formation of aggregates, which are widely used in the field of biochemistry and the medical industry, was studied with different compositions of alkyl betaine gemini surfactant (CAb) in conjugation with chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CPZ). The results were compared with those of a single-chain zwitterionic surfactant (CDmCB) of the same type with CPZ. Dynamic light scattering (DLS), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods were used to distinguish the aggregates for the CPZ/CAb system in aqueous solutions above a certain mole fraction of the drug CPZ ( = 0.2). Time-resolved fluorescence decay measurements of acridine orange revealed relative polarity near the head group regions of mixed micelle (CPZ/CAb and CPZ/CDmCB) systems. The hydrophilic environment around the head group regions of the CPZ/CAb system was different from that in the case of the CPZ/CDmCB system. On the other hand, several theoretical models were employed (Clint, Rubingh, Motomura, and SPB) for mixed micellar systems to elucidate the different interaction parameters. Such a systematic study of a zwitterionic gemini amphiphile and its interaction with other amphiphiles and an amphiphilic drug molecule is rare in the literature.

The determination of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) is a crucial factor when evaluating surfactants, making it an essential tool in studying the properties of surfactants in various industrial fields. In this present research, we assembled a comprehensive set of 593 different classes of surfactants including, anionic, cationic, nonionic, zwitterionic, and Gemini surfactants to establish a link between their molecular structure and the negative logarithmic value of critical micelle concentration (pCMC) utilizing quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) methodologies. Statistical analysis revealed that a set of 14 significant Mordred descriptors (SlogP, GATS6d, nAcid, GATS8dv, GATS4dv, PEOE_VSA11, GATS8d, ATS0p, GATS1d, MATS5p, GATS3d, NdssC, GATS6dv and EState_VSA4), along with temperature, served as appropriate inputs.

Highly Interfacial Active Gemini Surfactants as Simple and Versatile Emulsifiers for Stabilizing, Lubricating and Structuring Liquids.

Shandong Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Green Manufacturing at Yantai, Yantai, 264006, China.

To date, locking the shape of liquids into non-equilibrium states usually relies on jamming nanoparticle surfactants at an oil/water interface. Here we show that a synthetic water-soluble zwitterionic Gemini surfactant can serve as an alternative to nanoparticle surfactants for stabilizing, structuring and additionally lubricating liquids. By having a high binding energy comparable to amphiphilic nanoparticles at the paraffin oil/water interface, the surfactant can attain near-zero interfacial tensions and ultrahigh surface coverages after spontaneous adsorption.

A label-free light-scattering sensor for berberine determination was developed based on Gemini zwitterionic surfactant as logic devices. Amphiphilic phosphodiesters quaternary ammonium nanoparticles (PQANPs) with bionic phosphate ester structure were selected as a model for mimicking cell membrane. PQANPs self-assembled and formed the micelle structure, emitting strong light-scattering signal.

Viscoelastic surfactants (VESs) have significant importance for stimulation of low-permeable reservoirs and acid diversion applications to effectively enhance hydrocarbon productivity. VESs offer lower residues, complete gel production, and lower formation damage that make them suitable candidates for hydraulic fracturing applications. In this research work, the synthesis of two new zwitterionic gemini surfactants and together with previously known amidosulfobutaine () has been achieved.
