Article Abstract

Background: Tendon-exposed wounds are complex injuries with challenging reconstructions and no unified treatment mode. Furthermore, insufficient tissue volume and blood circulation disorders affect healing, which increases pain for the patient and affects their families and caretakers.

Review: As modern medicine advances, considerable progress has been made in understanding and treating tendon-exposed wounds, and current research encompasses both macro-and micro-studies. Additionally, new treatment methods have emerged alongside the classic surgical methods, such as new dressing therapies, vacuum sealing drainage combination therapy, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and live-cell bioengineering.

Conclusions: This review summarizes the latest treatment methods for tendon-exposed wounds to provide ideas and improve their treatment.

To overcome the difficulty of vascular regeneration in exposed tendon wounds, we combined human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hPMSCs) with an artificial dermal scaffold and assessed their role in promoting vascular regeneration and wound healing . hPMSCs were isolated from the human placenta and characterized based on their morphology, phenotypic profiles, and pluripotency. New Zealand rabbits were used to establish an exposed tendon wound model, and hPMSCs and artificial dermal scaffolds were transplanted into the wounds.

Treatment of soft tissue wounds with bone or tendon exposure remains a tough clinical challenge for surgeons. The current clinical approaches include various types of flap reconstruction and artificial dermis grafting as well as negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), which are time-consuming and often result in graft failure or significant scarring. Concentrated growth factor (CGF) is a novel blood extract that contains many growth factors, platelets and fibrin to promote an orderly healing process.

To explore the effects of artificial dermis combined with autologous skin in repairing the wounds with exposed bone and/or tendon in fingers of children after electric burns. A retrospective observational study was conducted. From January 2017 to December 2022, 14 children with bone and/or tendon exposed wounds in fingers after electric burns who met the inclusion criteria were admitted to Zhengzhou First People's Hospital, including 9 males and 5 females, aged 2 to 11 years.
