In this study, a tri-component composite named Zr/SiW/GO was meticulously prepared through an ultrasonic-assisted method. This composite incorporates zirconium nanoparticles (Lewis acid), a negatively charged Keggin type polyoxometalate, and graphene oxide, and serves as a remarkable heterogeneous catalyst. The Keggin component plays multiple roles as reducing, encapsulating, and bridging agents, resulting in a cooperative effect among the three components that significantly enhances the catalytic activity. The catalytic performance of Zr/SiW/GO was thoroughly investigated in the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides under mild conditions, employing HO as the oxidant. Remarkably, this composite exhibited exceptional stability and could be effortlessly recovered and reused up to four times without any noticeable loss in its catalytic activity.

Dissolved beryllium (< 1 kDa) mobilized as a major element in groundwater in legacy mine waste.

January 2025

Applied Geochemistry, Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resource Engineering, Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden.

Research regarding the geochemistry of beryllium (Be) in terrestrial environments is hindered by its high toxicity to humans and the low concentrations normally occurring in the environment. Although Be is considered an immobile element, extremely high dissolved concentrations have been detected in groundwater in the legacy Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) of Smaltjärnen, Sweden. Therefore, a detailed study was conducted to determine physiochemical parameters affecting the speciation of Be in the groundwater.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral mucosal wounds are susceptible to inflammation and complications due to exposure to microorganisms, which can hinder daily activities and diminish quality of life.
  • A novel therapeutic nanoplatform, DATS@Arg-EA-SA, has been developed to target these wounds by combining guanidinated dendritic peptides with diallyl trisulfide (DATS), providing both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • This nanoplatform effectively eliminates various bacteria, including drug-resistant strains like MRSA, and enhances healing by promoting the transition of inflammatory cells and alleviating pain, making it a promising solution for oral wound treatment.

Through extensive research, nitroxyl (HNO) has emerged as a newly recognized redox signal in plant developmental and stress responses. The interplay between nitric oxide (●NO) and HNO entails a complex network of signaling molecules and regulatory elements sensitive to the environment's specific redox conditions. However, functional implications for HNO in cell signaling require more detailed studies, starting with identifying HNO-level switches.

Leaf senescence is a major concern for postharvest leafy vegetables, as leaves are highly prone to yellowing and nutrient loss, resulting in reduced commercial value and limited shelf-life. This study aimed to investigate the effect of L-cysteine (L-cys) on postharvest Chinese flowering cabbage stored at 20 °C. The results showed that 0.

Cisplatin is a common and highly effective chemotherapeutic agent whose nephrotoxic side effect is well-characterized. Sodium thiosulfate (STS), an FDA-approved hydrogen sulfide (HS) donor drug, is emerging as a chemoprotective agent against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity (CIN). In this study, we investigated the chemoprotective mechanism of STS in a rat model of CIN.
