Introduction: Smartwatches, wrist-mounted devices with computing capacity able to connect with other devices via short-range wireless networking, are today commonly used by the general population to monitor their health status using specific applications. Currently, these devices offer new possibilities in remote health care monitoring and integration with other applications, through alert notifications, collection of personal data by a variety of sensors and the storage of these data. Several companies are introducing smartwatches with "health status" monitoring software with multiple functions, i.e. electrocardiogram (ECG) sensors. Recently, detection of atrial fibrillation based on heart rate monitoring by optical sensors resulted to be feasible and reliable when using the Apple Watch® and its corresponding application. Indeed, previous case reports highlighted its sensitivity in detecting morphological changes typical of the Acute Coronary Syndrome.
Case Report: We report the case of a healthcare worker, who experienced chest pain and diffuse myalgia, detected ECG alterations in the ST segment, and reached the Emergency Department Myopericarditis was diagnosed and treated promptly to prevent complications.
Discussion: Acute viral myocarditis and pericarditis are clinical conditions, usually characterized by 21 a benign course that does not require medical evaluation. However, ventricular arrhythmias are also common in viral myocarditis, and the latter is associated with a large proportion of sudden cardiac deaths in the young population without previous structural heart disease. In this case report, smartwatch technology allowed the preventive implementation of interventions against potentially life-threatening complications. Further developments in smartwatch technology could lead to more sensitive and specific diagnostic algorithms for conditions that require immediate medical intervention.

Hypertension constitutes a significant risk factor for the development of many coronary artery diseases. In recent years, the advancement of technology and artificial intelligence has led to significant research and breakthroughs in wearable devices that can monitor blood pressure (BP). These devices offer continuous, real-time BP readings, facilitating the early detection and prevention of hypertension.

Epidemiologic studies of ambient fine particulate matter (PM) and ozone (O) often use outdoor concentrations from central-site monitors or air quality model estimates as exposure surrogates, which can result in exposure errors. We previously developed an exposure model called TracMyAir, which is an iPhone application that determines seven tiers of individual-level exposure metrics for ambient PM and O using outdoor concentrations, home building characteristics, weather, time-activities. The exposure metrics with increasing information needs and complexity include: outdoor concentration (C, Tier 1), building infiltration factor (F, Tier 2), indoor concentration (C, Tier 3), time spent in microenvironments (ME) (T, Tier 4), personal exposure factor (F, Tier 5), exposure (E, Tier 6), and inhaled dose (D, Tier 7).

Phosphor-converted micro-light emitting diodes (micro-LEDs) are a crucial technology for display applications but face significant challenges in light extraction because of the high refractive index of the blue pump die chip. In this study, we design and experimentally demonstrate a nanophotonic approach that overcomes this issue, achieving up to a 3-fold increase in light extraction efficiency. Our approach involves engineering the local density of optical states (LDOS) to generate quasi-guided modes within the phosphor layer by strategically inserting a thin low-index spacer in combination with a metasurface for mode extraction.

Introduction: There is conflicting data in the literature regarding the clinical utility of wearable devices. This study examined the association between patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and step and stair flight counts obtained from wearable devices in postoperative total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients.
Methods: Data was collected from a multicenter prospective longitudinal cohort study from October 2018 to February 2022.

Background: 24-hour movement behavior, including Physical activity (PA), Sedentary behavior (SB), and sleep, is independently associated with health after stroke. Few studies have explored 24-hour movement behavior patterns in stroke survivors and their transitions, as well as the health implications of the transitions. This study aimed to explore the different subgroups and stability of 24-hour movement behavior patterns in people after stroke and the relationship of profile transitions with physical function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
