Article Abstract

In 2019, Spanish fertility clinics reached a historical record of ova extractions. A total of 14,521 surgeries were performed to serve the growing egg demand internationally. Here I show how bringing a cycle to completion is not an easy task for egg donors. Selecting a clinic, understanding their own biocapital in the industry and how to invest it, fitting the cycle into their lives, and managing pain and emotions become crucial parts of their work. I argue that these activities constitute a vast amount of labor that, although essential for the generation of value in reproductive bioeconomies, remains invisible and undertheorized.

Reframing as recourse: How women approach and initiate the end of fertility treatment.

Hopeful parents facing infertility dedicate significant sums of money, not to mention time, energy, and their own bodies, in the pursuit of biological parenthood via assisted reproductive technology (ART). Yet because the success rate of ART varies depending on a range of factors and resources remain finite, many undergoing treatment will not manage to biologically conceive. How do people who do not conceive with ART come to terms with this reality and the possibility that they may need to walk away from future treatments? Supplementing prior research that explores why women end treatment and what makes it difficult, this study draws upon 23 semi-structured, in-depth interviews to examine how women diagnosed with infertility consider and/or initiate discontinuation of treatment aimed at biological reproduction.

  • The study looks at how much money people in Cambodia have to spend on healthcare from 2009 to 2019, especially focusing on those who are the poorest.
  • It finds that more people are having to spend a lot of their money on health, which is making living conditions unfair, especially for low-income families.
  • The research also looks at different factors that cause these financial troubles, like where people live, how many people are in a household, and their age.

Article Synopsis
  • Posterior humeral subluxation (PHS) can lead to long-term issues in shoulder surgeries, particularly in patients with specific types of glenoid deformities (B2 and B3), potentially causing pain and loosening of the joint.
  • A study performed on 35 patients who underwent a procedure combining pyrocarbon hemiarthroplasty with glenoid reaming showed promising results, with nearly all patients experiencing improvement and no need for reoperation due to painful glenoid erosion over an average follow-up of 4.5 years.
  • Key measurements indicated that the procedure significantly corrected glenoid retroversion and PHS, with high success rates in recentering the humeral head, indicating an effective treatment approach for active patients

From Rhetoric to Action: Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Coordinated Specialty Care for Early Psychosis.

Attention to inclusivity and equity in health research and clinical practice has grown in recent years; however, coordinated specialty care (CSC) for early psychosis lags in efforts to improve equity despite evidence of ongoing disparities and inequities in CSC care. This Open Forum argues that marginalization and disparities in early psychosis research and clinical care are interrelated, and the authors provide suggestions for paths forward. Commitment to equity and justice demands recentering the perspectives of those most affected by early psychosis services and investing in the integration of historically excluded perspectives across all aspects of practice, policy, and research.

Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of bursal acromial resurfacing (acromiograft) on acromiohumeral distance, subacromial contact area, and pressure in a cadaveric model of massive rotator cuff tear.

Methods: Eight fresh-frozen cadaveric shoulders were tested using a customized shoulder testing system. Humeral head translation, subacromial contact pressure, and the subacromial contact area were evaluated across 4 conditions: (1) intact shoulder; (2) simulated massive rotator cuff tear, (3) 3-mm acromiograft condition, and (4) 6-mm acromiograft condition.
