A population diversifies into two or more species-such a process is known as speciation. In sexually reproducing microorganisms, which barriers arise first-pre-mating or post-mating? In this work, we quantify the relative strengths of these barriers and demonstrate that pre-mating barriers arise first in allopatrically evolving populations of yeast, . These defects arise because of the altered kinetics of mating of the participating groups. Thus, our work provides an understanding of how adaptive changes can lead to diversification among microbial populations.

Since the dissemination of information is more rapid and the scale of users on online platforms is enormous, the public opinion risk is more visible and harder to tackle for universities and authorities. Improving the accuracy of predictions regarding online public opinion crises, especially those related to campuses, is crucial for maintaining social stability. This research proposes a public opinion crisis prediction model that applies the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm combined with long short-term memory (LSTM) and implements it to analyze a trending topic on Sina Weibo to validate its prediction accuracy.

Purpose: Fish are susceptible to various parasitic infections, with Myxozoa emerging as a major group. A taxonomic study of Myxozoa is essential for the rapid diagnosis of species potentially responsible for epizootic diseases.

Methods: The studied fish was collected from the Kadey River, a tributary of the Sangha River in the Congo Basin in Cameroon, and parasitologically dissected.

Increasing toxic metal pollution in the aquatic ecosystem since the industrial revolution produces serious environmental challenges and has raised critical questions of ecological and human health implications. As a typical aquatic plant, Nasturtium officinale (N. officinale) has drawn significant attention due to its remarkable accumulation of heavy metals and other harmful substances from polluted water.

causes life-threatening infections in immunocompromised hosts, including hospitalized neonates. This pathogen is intrinsically resistant to fluconazole, while uncommon strains resistant to multiple antifungal drugs, including voriconazole, amphotericin B, and echinocandins, have also been reported from healthcare environments. Thus, understanding how spread, persist, and adapt to healthcare settings could help us develop better infection management strategies.

The COVID-19 pandemic, driven by the rapid evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, presents ongoing challenges to global public health. SARS-CoV-2 is characterized by rapidly evolving mutations, especially in (but not limited to) the spike protein, complicating predictions about its evolutionary trajectory. These mutations have significantly affected transmissibility, immune evasion, and vaccine efficacy, leading to multiple pandemic waves with over half a billion cases and seven million deaths globally.
