Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) may provide temporary hemodynamic support for patients with severe vasodilatory shock due to toxicologic ingestion. In a series of 10 cases of children less than 18 years of age who received VA ECMO support for toxicologic-induced vasodilatory shock, there were eight survivors and two nonsurvivors who died of significant neurologic injury. Upon initiation of ECMO support, survivors had decline in Vasoactive-Inotrope Scores (VIS).

Paediatric renal tumours include a broad range of neoplasms which largely differ, but also overlap to a smaller extent, with adult kidney cancer. These include the embryonal tumour nephroblastoma, which accounts for the majority of cases of kidney cancer in the first decade of life and, despite boasting a cure in ~ 90% cases, still presents clinical challenges in a small proportion of cases. A variety of less common mesenchymal tumours, including the mostly indolent congenital mesoblastic nephroma, clear cell sarcoma of kidney which continues to be associated with poor outcomes for higher stage disease, and the typically lethal malignant rhabdoid tumour, form the bulk of the remaining presentations in the first decade.

Despite the potential clinical use of plasma NfL across multiple neurological disorders, there is increasing evidence that underlying comorbidities such as renal impairment associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular diseases can increase NfL concentrations. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between plasma NfL concentrations and renal function (CKD staging) in individuals without known neurological conditions.

Methods: The United States Medicare claims database (2008- 18) was used to identify patients aged ≥65 years with MCI or AD and to evaluate their anticoagulant use from 2016- 17. A random sample of new anticoagulant users (n = 21,069) was selected.
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been associated with increased plasma phosphorylated Tau217 (pTau217) concentrations, potentially confounding its utility in the evaluation of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We assessed the association of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with plasma pTau217 concentrations measured by various assays.
Method: We included 195 participants from the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center with diagnoses of cognitively unimpaired (n=114), mild cognitive impairment (n=70), and AD dementia (n=11).
