Published: September 2023

To uncover the reaction mechanism of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds affecting coal self-heating, quantum chemical calculations and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) experiments were applied to elucidate the reaction pathways and thermodynamic characteristics of pyrrole, pyridine, indole, quinoline, and carbazole. Results show that in pyrrole, pyridine, indole, quinoline, and carbazole, the reaction with O captures the H atom and leads to the formation of ·OOH and pyrrolyl, pyridinyl, indolyl, quinolinyl, and carbazolyl radicals, respectively. The activation energies are 118.15, 86.642, 34.132, 21.004, and 47.259 kJ/mol, respectively. ROO· formed by spontaneous adsorption of O by nitrogen-containing radicals undergoes self-reaction, and the O-O bond is broken and dehydrogenated to generate ·OH. Subsequently, at room temperature, ·OH reacts with pyrrole, pyridine, indole, quinoline, and carbazole, resulting in the formation of HO and pyrrolyl, pyridinyl, indolyl, quinolinyl, and carbazolyl radicals, respectively, thereby forming a cyclic chain reaction. The XPS analysis yielded the following findings: (i) when the temperature rises to 70 °C, the N-5 and N-6 content decrease, which is attributed to the activation energy; (ii) when the temperature reaches 200 °C, the N-5 content decreases, which can be attributed to the activation energy required for the oxidation of pyrrole (118.5 kJ/mol).

State Key Laboratory of Drug Research & Center of Pharmaceutics, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China.

The efficacy of cancer immunotherapy relies on a sufficient amount of functional immune cells. Triple-negative breast cancer lacks enough immune cell infiltration, and adjuvant therapy is necessary to prime anti-tumor immunity. However, the improvement in efficacy is unsatisfactory with concern about inducing systemic immunotoxicity.

School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing, Haidian District, Ding No.11 Xueyuan Road, Beijing, 100083, People's Republic of China.

Context: Understanding the structural characteristics of coal at the molecular level is fundamental for its effective utilization. To explore the molecular structure characteristic, the long-flame coal from Daliuta (DLT), coking coal from Yaoqiao (YQ), and anthracite from Taixi (TX) were investigated using various techniques such as elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, solid-state C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Based on the structural parameters, the coal molecular model was constructed and optimized.

The use of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostics in oncology allows for the detection of the disease at an early stage. Among diagnostic radionuclides, Tc is a promising isotope that has been used to create several drugs for clinical use. One of the most effective Tc chelators is 6-hydrazinylnicotinic acid (HYNIC), which, when combined with various vector molecules, can be used for targeted delivery of radionuclides to tumor tissues.
