Purpose: To evaluate maternal dietary intake during pregnancy compared with the 2015-2020 and 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA).
Study Design And Methods: A retrospective observational study design was used. The cohort included women who gave birth to preterm infants between 25 1/7 weeks and 33 6/7 weeks of gestation. Within 2 weeks of birth, participants were asked to recall their diet in the last month of pregnancy using the Dietary Screener Questionnaire. Participants' dietary intakes were compared to current 2020-2025 DGA that include specific recommendations for pregnant women and prior 2015-2020 DGA that were in place during the study period but were not pregnancy-specific.
Results: Forty-five women participated in the study. None met the 2015-2020 or 2020-2025 DGA recommended intake of all seven dietary components. When compared to both DGAs, 2.2% of participants met the recommended dairy intake, 26.7% met the calcium intake, 15.6% were below the threshold for added sugar, and none met the vegetable or whole grain intake. When compared to the 2015-2020 DGA, 28.9% met the fruit intake and 2.2% met the fiber intake. However, when compared to the 2020-2025 DGA, only 2.2% met the fruit intake and none met the fiber intake.
Clinical Implication: Women who gave birth preterm did not adhere to the 2015-2020 or 2020-2025 DGA recommendations in the last month of pregnancy. Nurses are uniquely positioned to provide pregnant women with nutritional screening and counseling as part of routine prenatal care.

Background: Although high-quality nutrition systematic reviews (SRs) are important for clinical decision making, there remains debate on their methodological quality and reporting transparency.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the reliability and reproducibility of a sample of SRs produced by the Nutrition Evidence Systematic Review (NESR) team to inform the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).
Methods: We evaluated a sample of 8 SRs from the DGA dietary patterns subcommittee for methodological quality using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2) tool and for reporting transparency using the PRISMA 2020 and PRISMA literature search extension (PRISMA-S) checklists.

Background: The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) includes a lacto-ovo vegetarian pattern (the healthy vegetarian dietary pattern [HVDP]) as a recommended dietary pattern during pregnancy.
Objective: To adapt the HVDP for vegan, ovo-vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian, and pescatarian diets during pregnancy.
Design: Using food pattern modeling, 4 adaptations of the HVDP were developed at energy levels that may be appropriate during pregnancy (1800, 2000, 2200, 2400, and 2600 kcal/day).
Macronutrients are nutrients the body needs in large quantities, such as fats, carbohydrates, fiber, protein, and water. The exact quantity of macronutrients needed for an individual depends on multiple factors such as height, weight, sex, physical activity level, and medical conditions. For adequate intake, the () recommend an overall healthy eating pattern rather than specific macronutrient amounts.

The adult life stage encompasses a range of new experiences, opportunities, and responsibilities that impact health and well-being. During this life stage, health disparities continue to increase for Black Americans, with Black adults having a disproportionate burden of obesity, chronic diseases, comorbidities, and worse treatment outcomes compared to their White peers. While many of the underlying factors for these disparities can be linked to longstanding sociopolitical factors such as systemic racism, food insecurity, and poor access to healthcare, there are also several modifiable risk factors that are known to significantly impact health outcomes, such as improving diet quality, increasing physical activity, and not smoking.
