Three parameters are important to characterize a circadian and in general any biological clock: period, phase and amplitude. While circadian periods have been shown to correlate with entrainment phases, and clock amplitude influences the phase response of an oscillator to pulse-like zeitgeber signals, the co-modulations of amplitude and periods, which we term , have not been studied in detail. In this paper we define two concepts: refers to amplitude-period correlations arising in ensembles of self-sustained, limit cycle clocks in the absence of external inputs, and refers to the co-modulation of an individual clock's amplitude and period in response to external zeitgebers. Our findings show that twist influences the interaction of oscillators with the environment, facilitating entrainment, speeding upfastening recovery to pulse-like perturbations or modifying the response of an individual clock to coupling. This theoretical framework might be applied to understand the emerging properties of other oscillating systems.

Disruption of circadian rest-activity rhythm (RAR) has been found in many neurological disorders. In this study, actigraphic data were collected and analyzed to identify the RAR pattern in the elderly with cerebral small vessel disease. 115 cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) cases were recruited.

Maximal gross-muscular performance shows a daily variation in adult males, however, effects of sleep loss on circadian rhythms of gross-muscular tasks with a high skill element such as the standing broad jump is less well established, and differences between biological sex may exist. Thirty-one males and 24 females volunteered. Participants were familiarised with tests before completing two conditions i) Normal (N) retires at 23:30, rising at 07:30 h the night before testing, and ii) Sleep deprivation (SD) retiring at 03:00, rising at 07:30 h, administered in a randomised counterbalanced-fashion.

Study Objectives: Actigraphy devices are used in sleep medicine. The Actiwatch 2 (Philips Respironics) was an example of a frequently used device in this field. Nevertheless, the discontinuation of this device has led to an increased necessity for the implementation of other available actigraphy methods capable of providing objective information.

The external validity of the Morningness-Eveningness Scale for Children was analysed via objective measures of skin temperature, light exposure and motor activity with the ambulatory circadian monitoring methodology. A total of 138 adolescents (57 boys and 81 girls) aged 12-13 years, who in addition to completing the Morningness-Eveningness Scale for Children to determine their circadian typology wore a wrist activity device (Kronowise 3.0; Kronohealth SL) during school days and a weekend, participated.
