Ribonucleoside hydrolases are enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of ribonucleosides to nitrogenous bases and ribose. These enzymes are found in many organisms: bacteria, archaea, protozoa, metazoans, yeasts, fungi and plants. Despite the simple reaction catalyzed by these enzymes, their physiological role in most organisms remains unclear. In this review, we compare the structure, kinetic parameters, physiological role, and potential applications of different types of ribonucleoside hydrolases discovered and isolated from different organisms.

Metabolites can double as a signaling modality that initiates physiological adaptations. Metabolism, a chemical language encoding biological information, has been recognized as a powerful principle directing inflammatory responses. Cytosolic pH is a regulator of inflammatory response in macrophages.

The mechanisms underlying the impact of probiotic supplementation on health remain largely elusive. While previous studies primarily focus on the discovery of novel bioactive bacteria and alterations in the microbiome environment to explain potential probiotic effects, our research delves into the role of living Lactiplantibacillus (formerly known as Lactobacillus) and their conditioned media, highlighting that only the former, not dead bacteria, enhance the healthspan of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans).

Titin is the third contractile filament in the sarcomere, and it plays a critical role in sarcomere integrity and both passive and active tension. Unlike the thick and thin filaments, which are polymers of myosin and actin, respectively, titin is a single protein that spans from Z-disk to M-line. The N2A region within titin has been identified as a signaling hub for the muscle and is shown to be involved in multiple interactions.

Introduction: Many cancer patients experience high levels of anxiety during chemotherapy, which can negatively impact their mental health and their physiological, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Different complementary therapies aim to attenuate these effects, including music therapy. Although there is preliminary evidence on the positive effects of music therapy and music-based interventions in chemotherapy wards, few studies report live group interventions delivered by accredited music therapists.
