AI Article Synopsis

  • The study focused on the taxonomy of specific species using both morphological and molecular data, leading to the identification of 19 confirmed species across Europe, Asia, and North America.
  • Six new species and one new variety were described, and a variety was elevated to a species level.
  • The research also involved the reassessment of previous classifications, leading to the resurrection of certain names and the synonymization of others, while enhancing the understanding of morphology and distribution of the species.

Article Abstract

We studied the taxonomy of and similar species using morphological and molecular (nrITS, ) data, including a detailed study of the type collections of var. , f. and var. . Within the complex, we phylogenetically confirmed six species in Europe, five in Asia, and eight in North America. Based on our results, we recognize as a separate species occurring in North America, while is limited to Eurasia. We describe six new species and a new variety: , , , , and and its variety, var. . We elevate var. to species rank as . Based on the holotype of var. , collections of identified by Velenovský, and several modern collections, we resurrect the name . Based on molecular analyses of syntypes of f. and a holotype of var. , we synonymize them under . We also increase our knowledge about the morphology and distribution of .
