We studied the taxonomy of and similar species using morphological and molecular (nrITS, ) data, including a detailed study of the type collections of var. , f. and var. . Within the complex, we phylogenetically confirmed six species in Europe, five in Asia, and eight in North America. Based on our results, we recognize as a separate species occurring in North America, while is limited to Eurasia. We describe six new species and a new variety: , , , , and and its variety, var. . We elevate var. to species rank as . Based on the holotype of var. , collections of identified by Velenovský, and several modern collections, we resurrect the name . Based on molecular analyses of syntypes of f. and a holotype of var. , we synonymize them under . We also increase our knowledge about the morphology and distribution of .
