In terms of rotator cuff repair, there is a goal for complete repair and healing, as rotator cuff integrity correlates with clinical and functional results. Retear has been shown to have a significant influence on progression toward osteoarthritis, and patients with an intact supraspinatus show superior abduction and flexion strength. However, in cases where complete repair may not be possible and/or cost limitations may prohibit augmentation, partial repair can provide a respectable outcome.

Tears of the posterior medial meniscus root (PMMR) are common in older patients and reportedly contribute to rapid joint degeneration over time. Recognition of these tear types and the appropriate diagnosis through clinical exam and diagnostic imaging have improved significantly in recent years, as have surgical techniques to address them. Standardized post-operative rehabilitation protocols specific to PMMR repair have not been established or well understood in the scientific literature.

December 2024

Division in Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Department of Oral Biology, Human Identification Research Institute, BK21 FOUR Project, Yonsei University College of Dentistry, 50-1 Yonsei-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, 03722, Korea.

Background: Genu varum, or bow-legged deformity, involves an outward curvature of the lower limbs, often creating a visible gap between the knees when the ankles are together. Traditionally treated with invasive surgical methods like high tibial osteotomy, genu varum correction now includes less invasive options for patients with mild to moderate deformities. This commentary explores a novel approach using hyaluronic acid (HA) filler to volumise the medial gastrocnemius muscle, thereby improving calf contour and stability without surgery.

Background And Objectives: Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an allelic disorder of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in which pathogenic variants in cause progressive worsening of motor dysfunction, muscle weakness and atrophy, and death due to respiratory and cardiac failure. BMD often has in-frame deletions that preserve the amino acid reading frame, but there are some cases with microvariants or duplications. In recent years, the importance of therapeutic development and care for BMD has been emphasized.
