AI Article Synopsis

  • The prokaryotic generic names Bruns (2001) and Bernard (2022) are considered illegitimate because they share the same name with older genera (Small, Stewart and Hendrix, and Lenz) that were established earlier.
  • The rules governing naming in prokaryotic taxonomy (International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes) dictate that later names cannot be used if they are homonyms of older names.
  • To address this issue, the authors propose new generic names along with corresponding type species to replace the illegitimate names.

Article Abstract

The prokaryotic generic names Bruns . 2001 and Bernard . 2022 are illegitimate because they are later homonyms of the genus names Small 1903 (synonym of ; ) and Stewart and Hendrix 1945 (a Devonian ostracod genus) and Lenz 1973 (a Devonian brachiopod genus), respectively (Principle 2 and Rule 51b(4) of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes). We therefore propose the replacement generic names and , with type species and , respectively.

Purpose: Drug repositioning, a strategy that repurposes already-approved drugs for novel therapeutic applications, provides a faster and more cost-effective alternative to traditional drug discovery. Network-based models have been adopted by many computational methodologies, especially those that use graph neural networks to predict drug-disease associations. However, these techniques frequently overlook the quality of the input network, which is a critical factor for achieving accurate predictions.

As the toolbox of base editors (BEs) expands, selecting appropriate BE and guide RNA (gRNA) to achieve optimal editing efficiency and outcome for a given target becomes challenging. Here, we construct a set of 10 adenine and cytosine BEs with high activity and broad targeting scope, and comprehensively evaluate their editing profiles and properties head-to-head with 34,040 BE-gRNA-target combinations using genomically integrated long targets and tiling gRNA strategies. Interestingly, we observe widespread non-canonical protospacer adjacent motifs (PAMs) for these BEs.

Unlabelled: Despite recent advances, the regulation of anticancer and antimicrobial bioactive compound (AABC) production by leukocytes remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that inactivation of the DNA- and RNA-based Teazeled receptors of the Universal Receptive System in human leukocytes generated so called "Leukocyte-Tells," which showed enhanced AABC production. Comprehensive analysis of the AABCs produced by Leukocyte-Tells based on LC/MS identified 707 unique or differentially produced peptide or non-peptide metabolites.

A total of 164 viruses have been identified in peppers worldwide. To combat viruses, pathogen-derived resistance (PDR) has been employed by expressing a viral genomic segment or a viral protein in host plants. Unfortunately, peppers are recalcitrant to genetic transformation and regeneration.

Background: The traditional method of prophylactic loop ileostomy is time-consuming and prone to complications like stoma stenosis, peristomal adhesions, or dermatitis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical application value and potential benefits of a novel approach named linea alba support method (LASM) of prophylactic loop ileostomy via lower abdominal midline incision.

Methods: The clinical data of rectal cancer patients admitted to the General Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University between January 2021 and December 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.
