Unlabelled: Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a validated technique with satisfactory outcomes during 30 years of follow-up. The use of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane for vertical augmentation has been studied extensively. However, studies have reported exposure rates of up to 31%, there is no consensus on the management of postoperative exposure. The objective of this study was to propose a management approach for postoperative exposure of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membranes in alveolar ridge reconstruction.
Material And Method: An electronic search in PubMed Central's and additional electronic databases was performed. The search strategy was limited to human studies, full-text English or French articles published from 1990 until april 2023. The extracted data included defect location, membrane type, biomaterials, time to postoperative exposure, and Fontana classification stage. Protocol bias assessment was performed using an adaptation of the QUADAS-2 tool. This review has been registered on PROSPERO (ID: CRD42023445497).
Results: A total of 43 articles were found to be eligible, and 11 of these met the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on the results of this systematic review, an algorithm for the management of PTFE membrane exposure is proposed.
Conclusion: Postoperative membrane exposure is not a determining factor for the success of bone grafting. In cases with postoperative complications, the majority of cases still achieved adequate implant-prosthetic rehabilitation. Lastly, this series of 11 articles was insufficient to draw conclusions regarding good practice recommendations. A larger series is required to validate the specific management approaches.

Background: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) are increasingly being used for the management of diabetes mellitus and obesity. We sought to define the impact of preoperative GLP-1RA use on outcomes following major surgical procedures.
Methods: Patients who underwent a major surgical procedure between 2013 and 2021 were identified using the IBM MarketScan database.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a prevalent clinical issue following anesthesia and surgery. The onset of POCD, which is closely linked to circadian rhythm disturbance in previous studies, yet the underlying mechanism remains elusive. There is increasing evidence showed that mitochondrial architecture is coordinated by the circadian clock which DRP1 playing a crucial role.

Objective: The superior transseptal approach to mitral valve surgery offers improved exposure compared with left atriotomy; however, concerns remain regarding postoperative arrhythmias and pacemaker placement. This study investigates intraoperative parameters and postoperative outcomes in these approaches.
Methods: Retrospective review of 259 adults undergoing isolated mitral valve repair or replacement over a 10-year period was performed.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of a blood conservation program on trends in use of donor blood products and early clinical outcomes in infants undergoing open heart surgery.
Methods: Four hundred nine patients younger than age 1 year undergoing open-heart surgery between October 1, 2020, and June 30, 2023, were reviewed. The study period was divided into 4 eras with the first era as a before blood conservation baseline using traditional blood management.
