Atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by plaque formation, often leads to instability, particularly under Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) conditions, which exacerbate cardiovascular risks. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this process remain incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated the correlation between acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and serum levels of Nε-carboxyethyl-lysin (CEL), a prominent advanced glycation end product (AGE) elevated in T2DM, in a cohort of 225 patients with coronary artery disease.

Structure characteristics of a novel pectic polysaccharide from Fructus Corni and its protective effect on alcoholic fatty liver.

Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Natural Products & Chemical Biology, School of Chemistry & Pharmacy, Northwest A&F University, Yangling 712100, China; Key Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology of Chinese Materia Medica of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Air Force Medical University, Xi'an 710032, China. Electronic address:

Alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) is characterized by the accumulation of hepatic lipid and has no effective treatment yet. Fructus Corni is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and its extractions have demonstrated hepatoprotective properties. We hypothesize that the polysaccharides in Fructus Corni might have therapeutic effects on AFLD.

The CDKN2A gene, responsible for encoding the tumor suppressors p16(INK4A) and p14(ARF), is frequently inactivated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Herein, an uncharacterized long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) (ENSG00000267053) on chromosome 19p13.12 was found to be overexpressed in NSCLC cells with an active, wild-type CDKN2A gene.

This study investigated the ameliorative effects of Yinchen lipid-lowering tea (YCLLT) on Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the specific mechanism involved was also studied. We modeled hepatocellular steatosis with HepG2 cells and intervened with different concentrations of YCLLT-containing serum. Lipid deposition was assessed by oil red O staining and AdipoR1 expression was analyzed by Western blot.

AMPK: An energy sensor for non-small cell lung cancer progression and treatment.

Pharmacol Res

January 2025

Department of Pharmacy, Zhuhai People's Hospital (The Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai Clinical Medical College of Jinan University), Zhuhai 519000, China. Electronic address:

Lung cancer (LC) is the leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in China, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for 85 % of the overall lung cancer cases. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a key regulator of energy balance and homeostasis, and its dysregulation is a common feature in various malignancies, particularly in NSCLC with mutations in Liver kinase B1 (LKB1). Studies have shown that the AMPK signalling pathway has a dual role in NSCLC progression, both inhibiting and promoting the progression of malignant tumours.
