Introduction: In polycythemia vera (PV) patients undergoing phlebotomy, iron deficiency (ID) may develop. ID has been linked to restless legs syndrome (RLS), and in one study, 29.6% of PV patients had RLS. We aimed to evaluate the frequency of RLS in PV and to evaluate factors that might play a role in RLS development among PV and essential thrombocythemia (ET) patients.

Methods: We consecutively included PV cases as the patient group, and ET and ID patients and healthy subjects (HSs) were included as controls. Those with conditions that could lead to RLS were excluded. All subjects were questioned according to the diagnostic criteria of the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group.

Results: Twenty-seven PV, 23 ET, and 22 ID patients and 23 HSs were included. RLS was detected in 25.9%, 34.8%, and 45.5% of PV, ET, and ID patients, respectively. None of the HSs had RLS. In univariate analysis, interferon-α and anagrelide use, magnesium levels, and the Leeds assessment of neuropathic symptoms and signs (LANSS) scores had a significant impact on RLS in PV and ET patients ( = 0.014,  = 0.032,  = 0.036, and  = 0.003, respectively).

Conclusion: RLS was more common among PV and ET patients than HSs, which was irrespective to the iron status. RLS was more frequent in ET patients than that observed in PV cases, indicating that ID may not be the only causative factor for RLS development in PV. Further prospective studies are needed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of RLS developing in PV and ET.

Introduction: There is increasing prevalence of single-use flexible laryngoscopes in Otolaryngology. This study aims to quantify and compare the environmental outcomes of single-use disposable flexible laryngoscopes (SUD-Ls) and reusable flexible laryngoscope (R-Ls).

Methods: The ISO 14040 standardized Life Cycle Assessment (LCAs) was utilized to estimate the environmental footprint of SUD-L and R-L.

Objective This study aims to investigate the frequency of restless leg syndrome (RLS) and neuropathic pain (NeP) and their effects on the quality of life (QoL) of patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). Methods The study included 30 patients with AAV and 30 healthy volunteers. Demographic and clinical parameters and laboratory data were recorded.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a highly heterogeneous disease with varying remyelination potential across individuals and between lesions. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the potential to remyelinate remain poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to take advantage of the intrinsic heterogeneity in remyelinating capacity between MS donors and lesions to uncover known and novel pro-remyelinating molecules for MS therapies.

Background: The advantages and disadvantages of Robotic Laparoscopic Surgery (RLS) compared to other minimally invasive surgical approaches are debated in the literature.

Objective: To evaluate the learning curves (LC) and their assessment methods for Robotic Laparoscopic Surgery (RLS) and Laparoscopic Surgery (LPS) in gynaecologic procedures.

Materials And Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed including the English language observational or interventional studies reporting the absolute number of procedures needed to achieve competency in RLS and LPS gynaecologic procedures, along with an objective and reproducible LC assessment method.

Resonance Light Scattering (RLS) is a sensitive analytical technology hindered by its susceptibility to impurities in complex samples. This study introduces a combination of RLS with a high-efficiency sample preparation device, the Miniaturized Thermal-Assisted Purge-and-Trap (MTAPT), enhancing RLS's effectiveness in complex sample analysis. Specifically, we utilized MTAPT-RLS for the indirect screening of illegal hydrochloride drug additions in health products, based on three considerations: the transformation of bound HCl in hydrochloride drugs into volatile HCl under strong acid and heat; the minimal Cl content in health products for taste purposes; and the detectability of Cl ions by RLS upon the addition of AgNO and a stabilizer.
