Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural product associated with a wide range of biological and therapeutic activities. Despite the widespread cultural acceptance of CBD as a medicinal agent, much remains to be determined regarding its precise mechanism(s) of action in treating multiple conditions. CBD has been shown to promiscuously interact with several neurological targets with varying affinities.

The energies and geometries of the lowest lying singlet and triplet states of the four diradicals formed by removing two H atoms from thiophene have been characterized. We utilized the highly correlated, multireference methods configuration interaction with single and double excitations with and without the Pople correction for size-extensivity (MR-CISD+Q and MR-CISD) and averaged quadratic coupled cluster theory (MR-AQCC). CAS (8,7) and CAS (10,8) active spaces involving σ, σ*, π, and π* orbitals were employed along with the cc-pVDZ and cc-pVTZ basis sets.

We combine atomistic and continuum simulation methods to study the defect chemistry of a model grain boundary in UO. Using atomistic methods, we calculate the formation energies of oxygen interstitials, uranium vacancies, and hole polarons (U ions) across the Σ5(310)[001] symmetric tilt grain boundary. This information is then used as input in a continuum model of point-defect concentrations at the grain boundary and in its vicinity, taking into account electrostatic (space-charge) effects.

Fungal Biocontrol Agents in the Management of Postharvest Losses of Fresh Produce-A Comprehensive Review.

J Fungi (Basel)

January 2025

Gastro-Intestinal Microbiology and Biotechnology Unit, Agricultural Research Council-Animal Production, Private Bag X02, Irene, Pretoria 0062, South Africa.

Postharvest decay of vegetables and fruits presents a significant threat confronting sustainable food production worldwide, and in the recent times, applying synthetic fungicides has become the most popular technique of managing postharvest losses. However, there are concerns and reported proofs of hazardous impacts on consumers' health and the environment, traceable to the application of chemical treatments as preservatives on fresh produce. Physical methods, on the other hand, cause damage to fresh produce, exposing it to even more infections.

Nanotherapeutics for Meningitis: Enhancing Drug Delivery Across the Blood-Brain Barrier.

Biomimetics (Basel)

January 2025

GloNeuro, Sector 107, Vishwakarma Road, Noida 201301, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Meningitis is the acute or chronic inflammation of the protective membranes, surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and this inflammatory process spreads throughout the subarachnoid space. The traditional drug delivery methods pose a disadvantage in limiting the capacity of crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to reach the central nervous system (CNS). Hence, it is imperative to develop novel approaches that can overcome these constraints and offer efficient therapy for meningitis.
