Catalyst-Free Nitrogen Fixation by Microdroplets through a Radical-Mediated Disproportionation Mechanism under Ambient Conditions.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces, iChEM, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Innovation Laboratory for Sciences and Technologies of Energy Materials of Fujian Province (IKKEM), Xiamen University, Xiamen 361005, China.

Nitrogen fixation is essential for the sustainable development of both human society and the environment. Due to the chemical inertness of the N≡N bond, the traditional Haber-Bosch process operates under extreme conditions, making nitrogen fixation under ambient conditions highly desirable but challenging. In this study, we present an ultrasonic atomizing microdroplet method that achieves nitrogen fixation using water and air under ambient conditions in a rationally designed sealed device, without the need for any catalyst.

Additives-Modified Electrodeposition for Synthesis of Hydrophobic Cu/CuO with Ag Single Atoms to Drive CO Electroreduction.

Adv Mater

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Molecular & Process Engineering, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Green Chemistry and Chemical Processes, School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, East China Normal University, Shanghai, 200062, China.

Copper-based electrocatalysts are recognized as crucial catalysts for CO electroreduction into multi-carbon products. However, achieving copper-based electrocatalysts with adjustable valences via one-step facile synthesis remains a challenge. In this study, Cu/CuO heterostructure is constructed by adjusting the anion species of the Cu ions-containing electrolyte during electrodeposition synthesis.

Ferritin, a highly conserved iron storage protein, is among the earliest proteins that have been purified, named, and characterized due to its unique properties that continue to captivate researchers. Ferritin is composed of 24 subunits that form an almost spherical shell delimiting a cavity where thousands of iron atoms can be stored in a nontoxic ferric form, thereby preventing cytosolic iron from catalyzing oxidative stress. Mitochondrial and extracellular ferritin have also been described and characterized, with the latter being associated with several signaling functions.

Host defense antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are promising lead molecules with which to develop antibiotics against drug-resistant bacterial pathogens. Thanatin, an inducible antimicrobial peptide involved in the host defense of insects, is gaining considerable attention in the generation of novel classes of antibiotics. Thanatin or thanatin-based analog peptides are extremely potent in killing bacterial pathogens in the Enterobacteriaceae family, including drug-resistant strains of and .

Exploring the Impact of Structural Modifications of Phenothiazine-Based Novel Compounds for Organic Solar Cells: DFT Investigations.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Research Laboratory of Asymmetric Synthesis and Molecular Engineering of Materials for Organic Electronic (LR18ES19), Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences of Monastir, University of Monastir, Avenue of Environment, Monastir 5019, Tunisia.

This paper explores a novel group of D-π-A configurations that has been specifically created for organic solar cell applications. In these material compounds, the phenothiazine, the furan, and two derivatives of the thienyl-fused IC group act as the donor, the π-conjugated spacer, and the end-group acceptors, respectively. We assess the impact of substituents by introducing bromine atoms at two potential substitution sites on each end-group acceptor (EG1 and EG2).
