In this work, a simple sol-gel approach was used for the preparation of cyanopropyl (CNPr) functionalized silica nanoparticles (SiO-CNPr) that tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and cyanopropyltriethoxysilane (CNPrTEOS) used as precursors. This as-prepared SiO-CNPr nanoparticle sorbent was first characterized using FESEM, EDX, FTIR, TGA, and BET techniques. Then, the SiO-CNPr nanoparticle was applied as a new SPE sorbent for determining trace levels of OPPs in environmental water samples. To enhance the simultaneous extraction of non-polar or/and polar OPPs and to obtain the most efficient sorbent, several sol-gel synthesis parameters were studied. In addition, the effect of several effective parameters on SPE performance was investigated toward simultaneous extraction of non-polar or/and polar OPPs. Moreover, the figures of merit such as precision, linearity, LOQ, LOD, and recovery were evaluated for the sorbent. Finally, the designed SiO-CNPr SPE was used to determine OPPs in real water samples, and its extraction performance was compared to commercial cartridges based on cyanopropyl.

The change of metabolic pathways is recognized as the key to disease discovery prompting the development of ultra high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)-based quantitative platforms to explore the dynamic metabolite profiles of organisms. In this study, a liquid chromatography method based on cyanopropyl (CN) was developed. By adjusting the pH environment of the column, we achieved the elution of 51 metabolites spanning the most comprehensive set of biological pathways currently known.

In this study, the association constants of sixteen pesticides with the chiral selector octakis(6-O-tert-butyldimethylsilyl-2,3-di-O-acetyl)-γ-cyclodextrin were determined. The procedure only involved a few experimental measurements; namely, gas hold-up time and retention time of pesticides in capillary columns, as well as column phase ratio at each temperature condition. Fundamental equations of gas-liquid chromatography were used to estimate association constants.

This paper proposes an all-in-one microextraction-based protocol capable of determining and quantifying fentanyl, methadone, and zolpidem in plasma, urine, and saliva at concentrations below those required by international regulatory organizations. A homemade thin-film microextraction device featuring an octyl-cyanopropyl stationary phase was coupled with LC-MS/MS. The proposed method was developed and validated according to FDA criteria, providing extraction efficiency values ranging from 26.

Enantioseparation of agrochemicals by gas chromatography. Exploring columns based on cyclodextrin derivatives dissolved into polysiloxanes.

The main goal of this work is to expand the availability of chiral columns for the analysis of agrochemicals by gas chromatography. A broader offer of chiral stationary phases would allow shifting toward enantioselective analytical techniques environmentally more friendly for those compounds. We prepared seven chiral capillary columns based on derivatives of either, β-cyclodextrin or γ-cyclodextrins dissolved at high concentrations, in two typical polysiloxanes with different polarities, demonstrating not only the significance of the chiral selector but also of the polymer solvent for achieving adequate enantioseparation of some agrochemicals.

Chiral compounds play an important role in the pharmaceutical industry owing to their unique biological activities. The enantiomers must be separated because they can exhibit different pharmacological activities. Thus, the development of chiral separation methods is essential to determine the purity of enantiomers.
