Acute kidney injury (AKI) involves a rapid decline in kidney function, classified into prerenal, intrarenal, and postrenal causes. Drug-induced AKI's complex pathophysiology includes altered hemodynamics, inflammation, crystal deposition, hemolysis, and rhabdomyolysis. This report details a 42-year-old female with hypertension and diabetes who, following a dog bite, exhibited reduced kidney function (GFR: 16 mL/min/1.73m; BUN/Cr: 23/3.23 mg/dL). A renal ultrasound revealed no stones or masses, and the recent use of tirzepatide was identified. Discontinuation of the drug, IV fluid maintenance, and close monitoring led to swift kidney function improvement. This case underscores the importance of recognizing drug-induced AKI, even in unrelated complaints, and highlights the need for vigilance and research into the adverse effects of medications such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists.

As a commonly employed method for analyzing time-to-event data involving functional predictors, the functional Cox model assumes a linear relationship between the functional principal component (FPC) scores of the functional predictors and the hazard rates. However, in practical scenarios, such as our study on the survival time of kidney transplant recipients, this assumption often fails to hold. To address this limitation, we introduce a class of high-dimensional partially linear functional Cox models, which accommodates the non-linear effects of functional predictors on the response and allows for diverging numbers of scalar predictors and FPCs as the sample size increases.

Selective breeding is a potent method for developing strains with enhanced traits. This study compared the growth performance and stress responses of the genetically improved Abbassa Nile tilapia strain (G9; GIANT-G9) with a local commercial strain over 12 weeks, followed by exposure to stressors including high ammonia (10 mg TAN/L), elevated temperature (37 °C), and both for three days. The GIANT-G9 showed superior growth, including greater weight gain, final weight, length gain, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency ratio, as well as a lower feed conversion ratio and condition factor compared to the commercial strain.
