Survey of the impact of BOLT-trial data on oncologists' and dermatologists' decision-making in treating patients with locally advanced basal cell carcinoma.

Dermatol Reports

February 2025

Unit of Melanoma, Cancer Immunotherapy and Innovative Therapies Unit, Istituto Nazionale Tumori IRCCS "Fondazione G. Pascale", Naples.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignant tumor in white populations. Multiple studies demonstrated that the aberrant activation of Hedgehog signaling is a driver of BCC development, and its blockade represents a potential therapeutic target. In Italy, clinicians can prescribe Hedgehog inhibitors (HhIs) vismodegib and sonidegib.

Importance: Peripheral (blood-based) biomarkers for psychiatric illness could benefit diagnosis and treatment, but research to date has typically been low throughput, and traditional case-control studies are subject to potential confounds of treatment and other exposures. Large-scale 2-sample mendelian randomization (MR) can examine the potentially causal impact of circulating proteins on neuropsychiatric phenotypes without these confounds.

Objective: To identify circulating proteins associated with risk for schizophrenia (SCZ), bipolar disorder (BD), and major depressive disorder (MDD) as well as cognitive task performance (CTP).

Pharmacokinetics of Ampicillin-Sulbactam in Azotemic and Non-Azotemic Dogs.

J Vet Pharmacol Ther

March 2025

Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA.

Previous research has shown that azotemic dogs have a lower clearance and higher drug plasma concentrations of ampicillin compared to healthy dogs. The objective of this study was to determine the pharmacokinetics of ampicillin-sulbactam after multiple intravenous doses in hospitalized azotemic and non-azotemic dogs. This prospective study included 29 client-owned dogs; 19 azotemic and 10 non-azotemic.

The crisis of metabolic and mental disorders continues to escalate worldwide. A growing body of research highlights the influence of tryptophan and its metabolites, such as serotonin, beyond their traditional roles in neural signaling. Serotonin acts as a key neurotransmitter within the brain-gut-microbiome axis, a critical bidirectional communication network affecting both metabolism and behavior.

The landscape of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is dramatically changing. With very promising results seen with novel immunotherapeutics in the setting of relapsed and refractory disease, the prospect of using these agents in first-line therapy has prompted the development of multiple clinical trials addressing this question. This review seeks to outline and expand the current standard of care, as well as new advances, in the treatment of adult patients with ALL and address future areas of research.
