Medial Double Arthrodesis Through Single Approach.

Published: October 2023

Triple arthrodesis is a time-tested procedure toward primary salvage in the context of posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, symptomatic rigid and severe hindfoot malalignment, end-stage degenerative and posttraumatic arthritis, and sequelae of paralytic diseases. Today, the indication for hindfoot arthrodesis is applied to correct painful deformities and arthritic joints, such as advanced cases of adult-acquired flatfoot secondary to ligament collapse and insufficiency of the posterior tibial tendon. Although the triple arthrodesis is an effective and reliable outcome procedure, the popularity of a medial double arthrodesis has increased.

Objectives: To determine the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of intraarticular (IA) lorecivivint (LOR) in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Methods: Patients with American College of Rheumatology criteria-defined knee OA, Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grades 2-3, and medial Joint Space Width (JSW) by radiograph between 1.5 and 4 mm in the target knee were enrolled in this phase 3, 56-week, multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

Background: It is very well known that the supraclavicular nerve (SCN) which occupies the inferior part of the superficial cervical plexus basically originates from the ventral rami of C2-C4, then travels caudally into the investing layer of the deep cervical fascia (IL-DCF) alternatively termed the "prevertebral fascia."

Methods: This cadaveric study (a total of 6 soft-embalmed cadavers and bilateral dissections, i.e.

Maternally activated connections of the ventral lateral septum reveal input from the posterior intralaminar thalamus.

Brain Struct Funct

The lateral septum (LS) demonstrates activation in response to pup exposure in mothers, and its lesions eliminate maternal behaviors suggesting it is part of the maternal brain circuitry. This study shows that the density of pup-activated neurons in the ventral subdivision of the LS (LSv) is nearly equivalent to that in the medial preoptic area (MPOA), the major regulatory site of maternal behavior in rat dams. However, when somatosensory inputs including suckling were not allowed, pup-activation was markedly reduced in the LSv.

Patients with diabetes polyneuropathy are at a heightened risk for developing foot ulcers, often due to dynamic plantar foot pressure patterns that lead to increased pressure and shear forces in specific foot areas. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of foot insoles on peak pressure and the pressure-time integral in patients with polyneuropathy diabetic foot ulcers over a twelve-week period followed by an eight-week follow up. : This was a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, controlled clinical trial involving 60 patients aged between 50 and 65 years of both genders.

Minimizing Unnecessary Harvesting of an Extremely Thin Gracilis Tendon During ACL Reconstruction by Referencing the Diameter of the Doubled Semitendinosus Tendon Alone.

Orthop J Sports Med

January 2025

Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR.

Background: The incidence of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) graft failure is inversely related to the diameter of the ACLR graft. When the diameter of a 4-stranded hamstring tendon graft with a doubled semitendinosus and doubled gracilis tendon (ST×2 + G×2) configuration is <8 mm, the gracilis tendon is often thin.

Hypothesis: (1) The diameter of the doubled semitendinosus tendon (ST×2) alone would be able to predict the probability of a 4-stranded ACLR graft having a diameter of ≥8 mm, and (2) there would be a specific cutoff value for the ST×2 diameter such that the addition of a doubled gracilis tendon (G×2) will not result in a 4-stranded graft with a ≥8-mm diameter.
