Accurate segmentation of the medical image is the basis and premise of intelligent diagnosis and treatment, which has a wide range of clinical application value. However, the robustness and effectiveness of medical image segmentation algorithms remains a challenging subject due to the unbalanced categories, blurred boundaries, highly variable anatomical structures and lack of training samples. For this reason, we present a parallel dilated convolutional network (PDC-Net) to address the pituitary adenoma segmentation in magnetic resonance imaging images. Firstly, the standard convolution block in U-Net is replaced by a basic convolution operation and a parallel dilated convolutional module (PDCM), to extract the multi-level feature information of different dilations. Furthermore, the channel attention mechanism (CAM) is integrated to enhance the ability of the network to distinguish between lesions and non-lesions in pituitary adenoma. Then, we introduce residual connections at each layer of the encoder-decoder, which can solve the problem of gradient disappearance and network performance degradation caused by network deepening. Finally, we employ the dice loss to deal with the class imbalance problem in samples. By testing on the self-established patient dataset from Quzhou People's Hospital, the experiment achieves 90.92% of Sensitivity, 99.68% of Specificity, 88.45% of Dice value and 79.43% of Intersection over Union (IoU).

Background: Healthy individuals demonstrate considerable heterogeneity upon dynamic quantitative sensory testing assessment of endogenous pain modulatory mechanisms. For those who stratify into a 'pro-nociceptive profile' cohort, consisting of inefficient conditioned pain modulation (CPM) and elevated temporal summation of pain (TSP), the optimal approach for balancing the net output of pain modulatory processes towards anti-nociception remains unresolved. In this translational healthy human and rat study, we examined whether descending modulation countered spinal amplification during concurrent application of a CPM and TSP paradigm alongside pupillometry since pontine activity was previously linked to functionality of endogenous pain modulatory mechanisms and pupil dilation.

Background: Subglottic stenosis is a significant clinical challenge in pediatric anesthesia, often necessitating interventions that can lead to various postoperative complications. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of prophylactic continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) application on recovery time and airway complications in pediatric patients with subglottic stenosis undergoing balloon dilatation.
Methods: A prospective, double-blinded, parallel-group, randomized controlled study was conducted at Health Sciences University Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital on pediatric patients with subglottic stenosis, aged from 0 to 12 years and who underwent elective balloon dilatation under general anesthesia.

Crowd counting aims to estimate the number, density, and distribution of crowds in an image. While CNN-based crowd counting methods have been effective, head-scale variation and complex background remain two major challenges for crowd counting. Therefore, we propose a multiscale region calibration network called MRCNet to effectively address these challenges.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the complicated neurodevelopmental disorders that impacts the daily functioning and social interactions of individuals. It includes diverse symptoms and severity levels, making it challenging to diagnose and treat efficiently. Various deep learning (DL) based methods have been developed for diagnosing ASD, which rely heavily on behavioral assessment.

This study was conducted to assess the effects of fumonisin B (FB) on the jejunum of pigs using a novel ex vivo model conducted in parallel with an in vivo trial. For the in vivo model, twelve male 28 to 70-days-old pigs were subjected to two treatments of six animals each: the control group, fed a basal diet (BD), and the FB group, fed the BD + 50 mg/kg FB. At 70 days, the animals were slaughtered and one jejunal sample was collected from each pig for further histopathological analyses.
