AI Article Synopsis

  • Humidity is really important for measuring things, and scientists have to think about how temperature affects these measurements when making special sensors called thermo-hygrometer fiber sensors.
  • The sensors use special optical fibers that need to be protected from humidity so they don't give wrong readings.
  • In this study, researchers created new types of optical fibers that work well in different temperatures and tested them, making sure they are very accurate even over long distances.

Article Abstract

Humidity is a critical environmental factor in various applications, and its temperature dependence must be considered when developing thermo-hygrometer fiber sensors. The optical fibers that constitute the sensor must have a temperature reference, which should be resistant to humidity to avoid cross-sensitivities. This paper presents two innovative optical fibers insensitive to humidity over temperatures ranging from -20 to 55°C. To the best of our knowledge, the novel standard size optical fibers coated with acrylate and silicone are tested under controlled conditions using an optical time-domain reflectometer sensor based on Rayleigh scattering. The sensor achieves meter-range resolution over kilometers of length with a response time of few minutes.

This study assessed the impact of race and ethnicity on longitudinal test variability and time to detect glaucoma progression using standard automated perimetry (SAP) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The sample consisted of 47,003 SAP tests from 5402 eyes and 25,480 OCT tests from 4125 eyes, with 20% of participants self-identifying as Black or African American and 80% as White; 29% as Hispanic or Latino and 71% as Not Hispanic or Latino. Variability was measured using standard deviations of residuals from linear regression models for SAP mean deviation (MD) and OCT retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness over time.

This study offers a comprehensive analysis of the Perturbed Schrödinger -Hirota Equation (PSHE), crucial for understanding soliton dynamics in modern optical communication systems. We extended the traditional Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation (NLSE) to include higher-order nonlinearities and spatiotemporal dispersion, capturing the complexities of light pulse propagation. Employing the modified auxiliary equation method and Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM), we derived a spectrum of exact traveling wave solutions, encompassing exponential, rational, trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions.

Department of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Technische Universität Dresden, Dresden, Germany.

Purpose: Analysis of autofluorescence holds promise for brain tumor delineation and diagnosis. Therefore, we investigated the potential of a commercial confocal laser scanning endomicroscopy (CLE) system for clinical imaging of brain tumors.

Methods: A clinical CLE system with fiber probe and 488 nm laser excitation was used to acquire images of tissue autofluorescence.

Transmission matrix measurements of multimode fibers are now routinely performed in numerous laboratories, enabling control of the electric field at the distal end of the fiber and paving the way for the potential application to ultrathin medical endoscopes with high resolution. The same concepts are applicable to other areas, such as space division multiplexing, targeted power delivery, fiber laser performance, and the general study of the mode coupling properties of the fiber. However, the process of building an experimental setup and developing the supporting code to measure the fiber's transmission matrix remains challenging and time consuming, with full details on experimental design, data collection, and supporting algorithms spread over multiple papers or lacking in detail.

College of Electrical and Information Engineering, SANYA Offshore Oil and Gas Research Institute, Northeast Petroleum University, Daqing 163318, China.

Integrating ZnS:Cu@AlO/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) flexible matrices with optical fibers is crucial for the development of practical passive sensors. However, the fluorescence coupling efficiency is constrained by the small numerical aperture of the fiber, leading to a reduction in sensor sensitivity. To mitigate this limitation, a microsphere lens was fabricated at the end of the multimode fiber, which resulted in a 21.
