AI Article Synopsis

  • This report describes the first documented human case of a specific fungal mold found in a 7-year-old boy with chronic granulomatous disease, isolated from a lung nodule.
  • The mold was identified at a national reference lab, which also had 17 other respiratory samples test positive for the same organism between 2013 and 2021.
  • While the best treatment for this infection is still unclear, azoles and amphotericin B showed effectiveness against the isolates tested.

Article Abstract

We report the first known human case of in the medical literature. was isolated from a pulmonary nodule in a 7-year-old male with chronic granulomatous disease. The mold was identified as at a national reference laboratory, where 17 other human respiratory samples tested positive for from 2013 to 2021. Optimal antimicrobial treatment is unknown, but azoles and amphotericin B demonstrated activity against each tested isolate.

Infection by Clonally Related Isolates: The Role of Drinking Water.

Am J Respir Crit Care Med

March 2025

The University of Queensland, Children's Health Research Centre, Faculty of Medicine , Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Rationale: group bacteria (MABS) cause lethal infections in people with chronic lung diseases. Transmission mechanisms remain poorly understood; the detection of dominant circulating clones (DCCs) has suggested potential for person-to-person transmission.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the role of drinking water in the transmission of MABS.

Background: Acute Stanford type A aortic dissection is a severe emergency condition that, if left untreated, is associated with a high mortality rate. The extent of surgical repair may impact the outcomes of these patients.

Method: Patients operated for acute type A aortic dissection from a multicentre European registry were included.

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are ubiquitous, opportunistic pathogens that can cause lung disease in people with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFB) and cystic fibrosis (CF). The incidence of NTM pulmonary infections and lung disease has continued to increase worldwide over the last decade among both groups. Notably, women with NCFB NTM pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) bear a disproportionate burden with NTM rates increasing in this population as well as having consistently higher incidence of NTM-PD compared to men.

COMPARISON OF STENT GEOMETRY ACHIEVED BY DIFFERENT SIDE-BRANCH BALLOONING TECHNIQUES FOR BIFURCATION PROVISIONAL STENTING: THE CRABBIS TRIAL.

JACC Cardiovasc Interv

March 2025

Department of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Sciences, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy; Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS, Rome, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: "Stepwise provisional stenting" is the most adopted approach for percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in bifurcation lesions. During these procedures, side-branch (SB) may deserve treatment, but the best ballooning technique is still undetermined.

Objectives: To compare the stent configurations obtained by two SB ballooning sequences after the main vessel (MV) stent implantation: proximal-optimization-technique (POT)+kissing-balloon-inflation+final POT (PKP) versus POT+isolated-SB-dilation+final POT (PSP).

Background: Performing a left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) or catheter ablation with left-sided intracardiac thrombus is considered very-high risk for periinterventional stroke. Cerebral embolic protection (CEP) devices are designed to prevent cardioembolic stroke and have been widely studied in TAVR procedures. However, their role in LAAO and catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia (VT) or in pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with cardiac thrombus present remains unknown.
