Anticorrosion and adsorption behaviour of synthesized carbohydrazide Schiff bases, namely (Z)-N'-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-6-methyl-2-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carbohydrazide(MBTC) and (Z)-N'-(3,4-dichlorobenzylidene)-6-methyl-2-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carbohydrazide (CBTC) was examined for mild steel (MS) in 15% HCl medium. The corrosion inhibition study was performed by using gravimetric, thermodynamic, electrochemical and theoretical studies including density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamic simulation (MDS) and Monte Carlo simulations (MCS). The outcomes in terms of corrosion inhibition efficiency using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method at 303 K and 150 ppm concentration were 96.75% for MBTC and 95.14% for CBTC. Both inhibitors adsorbed on the MS surface through physical as well as chemical adsorption and followed the Langmuir isotherm. The mixed-type nature of both inhibitors was identified by polarization results. Surface analysis was done using FESEM, EDX, AFM and XPS studies and results showed that a protective layer of inhibitor molecules was developed over the surface of MS. The results of DFT, MCS and MDS are in accordance with experimental results obtained by weight loss and electrochemical methods.

The automatic fixation of CO in air played a key role in the construction of Dy(III) single-molecule magnets (SMMs) and Gd(III) magnetic refrigeration molecular materials when Ln(III)Cl (Ln = Dy and Gd) was reacted with a new hydrazone Schiff base ligand {HL = ()-'-(4-fluoro-2-hydroxybenzylidene)pyrimidine-4-carbohydrazide}, which is condensed from pyrimidine-4-carbohydrazide and 4-fluorosalicylaldehyde. Surprisingly, the small difference in methanol and ethanol solvents leads to dramatic changes in the structures of these Ln(III) cluster complexes. When methanol and ethanol participated in the reaction, a trapezoidal pyramid Dy(III) pentanuclear cluster [DyL(OH)(CO)(OCOMe)(MeOH)(HO)]·3MeOH·3.

This study investigates the effectiveness of a Schiff base derived from thio-carbohydrazide and salicylaldehyde as an adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater. The Schiff base demonstrated excellent adsorption capacity and reusability, with high removal efficiency and rapid adsorption kinetics. The results were supported by theoretical density functional theory simulations, which revealed the enhanced dynamic nature of the Schiff base system for heavy metal adsorption.

We report the synthesis, characterization, anti-cancer activity and mechanism of action of a novel water-soluble Cu(II) complex with salicylidene carbohydrazide as the ligand and -phenanthroline as the co-ligand. The synthesized complex (1) was characterized by FT-IR, EPR, and electronic spectroscopy, as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound was found to be paramagnetic from EPR spectra and X-ray crystallography revealed that the molecule crystallized in an orthorhombic crystal system.

A new hydrazone Schiff base bridging ligand (HL ()-'-((1-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)pyrazine-2-carbohydrazide) and /-proline were used to construct a pair of homochiral Dy cluster complexes, [Dy(CO)(-Pro)(L)(HL)]·5DMA·2HO (-, -HPro = -proline; DMA = ,-dimethylacetamide) and [Dy(CO)(-Pro)(L)(HL)]·5DMA·2HO (-, -HPro = -proline), which show a novel triangular Dy topology. Notably, the fixation of CO in the air formed a carbonato central bridge, playing a key role in assembling -/-. Magnetic measurements revealed that -/- displays intramolecular ferromagnetic coupling and magnetic relaxation behaviours.

Two new Schiff bases, TIC ((E)-N'-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-5-(thiophene-2-yl)isoxazole-3-carbohydrazide) and TIE ((E)-N'-(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-5-(thiophene-2-yl)isoxazole-3-carbohydrazide), have been designed and synthesized as chemosensors for distinct recognition of Ga and Fe ions. TIE demonstrated a prominent "turn on" response characterized by clear distinguished fluorescence when coordination with Ga ions in the DMSO/HO buffer solution. In comparison, TIC also showed "turn on" response of blue fluorescence which was more selective and sensitive than that of TIE due to the steric hindrance of ethoxy group of TIE.
