To address the issue of floating and loss of floc sludge caused by gas production in anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) reactors, this study proposes a limited nitrite supply strategy to regulate gas production during the settling and enhance sludge retention. Results indicate that the effluent suspended solids in the anammox reactor can be reduced to as low as 0.11 g/L under specific feast-starvation conditions. Even under long-term intermittent nitrite-starvation stress, the maximum growth rate of Candidatus_Kuenenia can still reach 0.085d, with its abundance increasing from 0.47% to 8.83% within 69 days. Although the combined effects of starvation and sedimentation would lead to a temporary decrease in anammox activity, this reversible inhibition can be fully restored through substrate intervention. The limited nitrite supply strategy promotes the sedimentation of anammox sludge without significantly affecting its growth rate, and effective sludge retention is crucial for enriching anammox sludge during initial cultivation.

Sulfur-siderite driven autotrophic denitrification (SSAD) has received increasing attention for nutrient removal in constructed wetlands (CWs). Nevertheless, its effectiveness in simultaneous water purification and greenhouse gases (GHGs) reduction remains obscure. In this study, three vertical flow constructed wetlands (VFCWs), filled with quartz sand (CCW), sulfur (S-CW), and sulfur-siderite mixed substrates (SS-CW), were constructed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of SSAD on water purification enhancement and GHGs reduction.

Nanobubble water (NBW) or temperature-phased anaerobic digestion assisted by microbial electrolysis cell (MEC-TPAD) can promote sludge hydrolysis and methanogenesis. However, the role of the combined application of NBW and MEC-TPAD in terms of anaerobic performance and related microbial properties remains unclear. This study investigated the impact of Air-NBW on hydrolysis and methanogenesis of dewatered sludge MEC-TPAD.

In agricultural production systems, the harm of both antibiotics and microplastics (MPs) to human health has been an important and continuously concerned issue. A small bagged silage production system was designed to investigate the effects of Lactoplantibacillus plantarum, polyethylene (PE) -MPs and their mixture on the silage fermentation and chemical composition of Tetracycline (TET) -contaminated whole plant maize. In addition, the bacterial community of silage samples was analyzed by using next generation genome sequencing technology.

The contribution of the gut to the ingestion, production, absorption, and excretion of the extra ammonia and urea-N associated with feeding ("exogenous" fraction) has received limited prior attention. Analysis of commercial pellet food revealed appreciable concentrations of ammonia and urea-N. Long term satiation-feeding increased whole trout ammonia and urea-N excretion rates by 2.

Organic carbon can influence nitrogen removal during the anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) process. Propionate, a common organic compound in pretreated wastewater, its impacts on mixotrophic anammox bacteria and the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. This study investigated the core metabolism and shift in behavior patterns of mixotrophic Candidatus Brocadia sapporoensis (AMXB) under long-term propionate exposure.
