Indian J Med Ethics

January 2025

Director Professor, Department of Physiology, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi University, Delhi, INDIA.

Background: It is challenging to teach the complexity of the doctor-patient relationship through attitude, ethics, and communication (AETCOM) modules, particularly without being formally trained and especially to first-year medical students who do not interact directly with patients. The present study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of trigger films (TFs) or short movie clips as a teaching-learning tool to train undergraduate medical students on various aspects of doctor-patient relationships.

Methods: Two modules on various aspects of the doctor-patient relationship were developed using TFs and written case studies and implemented on Phase Ⅰ medical students.

Background: Depression is a major public health concern for adolescents, who exhibit low rates of connection to care despite significant needs. Although barriers to help-seeking such as stigma are well documented, interventions to address stigma and to increase help-seeking behavior are insufficient. Dissemination of short videos in social media offer a promising approach, but designing effective stimuli requires better insight into adolescents' perspectives of their own experiences, barriers, and possible interventions.

We discuss the arguments exposed in the Letter to the Editor "Reflections on the Inclusion of Direct-Care Physicians as Educators in Community Hospitals", exploring the teaching competencies necessary for community preceptors in the context of medical education, highlighting the growing responsibility of these professionals in the training of future physicians in health-deprived regions. From a narrative review, we analyze faculty development (FD) programs, emphasizing their importance in improving teaching skills, creating support networks, and providing personalized content for specific challenges. Among the competence domains identified are teaching skills, evaluation criteria, professionalism, communication, and leadership/management.
