SNX3 mediates heart failure by interacting with HMGB1 and subsequently facilitating its nuclear-cytoplasmic translocation.

Sorting nexins (SNXs) as the key regulators of sorting cargo proteins are involved in diverse diseases. SNXs can form the specific reverse vesicle transport complex (SNXs-retromer) with vacuolar protein sortings (VPSs) to sort and modulate recovery and degradation of cargo proteins. Our previous study has shown that SNX3-retromer promotes both STAT3 activation and nuclear translocation in cardiomyocytes, suggesting that SNX3 might be a critical regulator in the heart.

Tandospirone prevents anesthetic-induced respiratory depression through 5-HT receptor activation in rats.

Respiratory depression is a side effect of anesthetics. Treatment with specific antagonists or respiratory stimulants can reverse respiratory depression caused by anesthetics; however, they also interfere with the sedative effects of anesthetics. Previous studies have suggested that tandospirone may ameliorate respiratory depression without affecting the sedative effects of anesthetics.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) are known to contribute to both protective and pronociceptive processes. However, their contribution to neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury (SCI) needs further investigation. In a recent study utilizing TrkB mice, it was shown that systemic pharmacogenetic inhibition of TrkB signaling with 1NM-PP1 (1NMP) immediately after SCI delayed the onset of pain hypersensitivity, implicating maladaptive TrkB signaling in pain after SCI.

Effects of long-term steroid therapy on the results of dental age estimation using pulp/tooth ratio.

J Forensic Odontostomatol

December 2024

Department of Medicine and Health Science "Vincenzo Tiberio", University of Molise, AgeEstimation Project, Campobasso, Italy.

Forensic age estimation is performed by assessing pulp chamber constrictions due to physiological age-related changes in dental radiographs; however, the estimated ages occasionally deviate from the actual ages. In particular, long-term steroid users tend to demonstrate pulp chamber constrictions in all teeth. Because this is uncommon among younger age groups, caution should be exercised when evaluating pulp chamber constriction.

Alzheimers Dement

Division of Neurogeriatrics, Center for Alzheimer Research, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS), Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with synaptic and memory dysfunction. A pathological hallmark of the disease is reactive astrogliosis, with reactive astrocytes surrounding amyloid plaques in the brain. Astrocytes have also been shown to be actively involved in disease progression, nevertheless, mechanistic information about their role in synaptic transmission during AD pathology is lacking.
