Background: To assess the reasons for dental implant failures.

Materials And Methods: A total of 100 implants were studied in 80 subjects. The radiographic investigations were performed to assess the record length of implant and diameter of implant. Risk factors, such as habit of smoking, history of diabetes, and hypertension, were recorded. The data were collected and assessed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used to assess the failure rate in dental implants. A -value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results: A total of 100 dental implants were included. The maximum dental implant failure was seen with a diameter <3.75 mm (30%) followed by 3.75-4.5 mm (16%) and >4.5 mm (6.15%). The difference was found to be significant ( < 0.05).

Conclusion: Dental implant failure was high in dental implants with <3.75 mm diameter, dental implants with a length <10.0 mm, and among smokers.

Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences, Division of Periodontology, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota, 515 Delaware Street SE, Minneapolis, MN, 55455, USA.

Purpose: This large-scale retrospective study aimed to examine the long-term effect of antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications intake on dental implant treatment outcome.

Materials And Methods: This study retrospectively examined data from patients who underwent dental implant procedures at several university dental clinics within the BigMouth network between 2011 and 2022. Patients' characteristics including age, gender, ethnicity, race, tobacco use, systemic medical conditions and intake of antiplatelets and anticoagulants were analyzed.

Prediction models for the complication incidence and survival rate of dental implants-a systematic review and critical appraisal.

Int J Implant Dent

January 2025

Center of Oral Implantology, Stomatological Hospital, School of Stomatology, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Purpose: This systematic review aims to assess the performance, methodological quality and reporting transparency in prediction models for the dental implant's complications and survival rates.

Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases. Peer-reviewed studies that developed prediction models for dental implant's complications and survival rate were included.

Implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation for patients with severely atrophic jaws is challenging due to complex anatomical considerations and the limitations of conventional augmentation techniques. This study explores the potential of subperiosteal (juxta-osseous) implants as an alternative solution, using finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate mechanical performance. Realistic jaw models, developed from radiographic data, are utilized to simulate various implant configurations and load scenarios.

Artificial Intelligence-Based Detection and Numbering of Dental Implants on Panoramic Radiographs.

Clin Implant Dent Relat Res

February 2025

SEMRUK Technology Inc., Cumhuriyet Teknokent, Sivas, Turkiye.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based deep learning model for the detection and numbering of dental implants in panoramic radiographs. The novelty of this model lies in its ability to both detect and number implants, offering improvements in clinical decision support for dental implantology.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective dataset of 32 585 panoramic radiographs, collected from patients at Sivas Cumhuriyet University between 2014 and 2024, was utilized.

Computer-guided surgery is a new technology in the field of implant dentistry. The surgical guide is produced using cone-beam computed tomography along with the patient's intraoral scanning, with both documents integrated into software to produce the guide. It is important to note that surgery guided by tomography aims to achieve better diagnosis, planning, surgical precision, and prognosis.
