In this study, a novel electrochemical assay for determining 17-β-estradiol (E2) was proposed. The approach involves modifying a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with a nanocomposite consisting of α-FeO nanoparticles supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-denoted as α-FeO-CNT/GCE. The synthesis of the α-FeO-CNT nanocomposite was achieved through a simple and cost-effective hydrothermal process. Morphological and chemical characterization were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The presence of the α-FeO-CNT film on the GCE surface resulted in an enhanced electrochemical response to E2, preventing electrode surface fouling and mitigating the decrease in peak current intensity during E2 oxidation. These outcomes substantiate the rationale behind the GCE modification. After the optimization of experimental conditions, E2 was determined by the square wave voltammetry technique using 0.1 mol L KCl solution (pH = 7.0) with 20% ethanol as a supporting electrolyte. A linear concentration range of 5.0-100.0 nmol L and a low limit of detection of 4.4 nmol L were obtained. The electroanalytical method using α-FeO-CNT/GCE was applied for E2 determination in pharmaceutical, lake water, and synthetic urine samples. The obtained results were attested by recovery tests and by high-performance liquid chromatography as a comparative technique at a 95% confidence level. Thus, the developed electrochemical sensor is simple and fast to obtain, presents high accuracy, and is viable for determining E2 in routine analysis.

In this paper, microporous Zn-based zeolitic imidazolate framework with the sodalite cage structure (SOD-ZIF-8) was synthesized by the solvothermal method. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption were employed to characterize the synthesized material. An ultra-sensitive electrochemical sensor based on highly dispersed bimetallic Ni-Pt nanoparticles immobilized on zeolitic metal-organic framework ZIF-8 for dopamine quantification is introduced for the first time.

In this study, a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor (MIECS) was constructed based on the combination of graphene quantum dots-gold nanoparticles (GQDs-AuNPs), molecular imprinting polymer (MIP), and electrochemical technology for the ultra-sensitive detection of 17β-estradiol (E). GQDs-AuNPs were synthesized and modified on the surface of glassy carbon electrodes (GCE). Safranine T was used as the functional monomer and E was the template molecule for self-assembly and electropolymerization, thus generating an MIP film on the electrode surface.

In the present work, nitrogen-doped carbon was synthesized starting from a chitosan/urea mixture and immobilized at the surface of a bare glassy carbon electrode to detect Cd(II) ions using differential pulse-anodic stripping voltammetry method (DP-ASV). The synthesized nitrogen-doped carbon showed a significant potential for determining Cd(II) ions. Doping carbon with nitrogen atoms gives a structure with increased valence band energy, leading to acceleration of the electron transfer by creating an interaction of nitrogen's free electrons with Cd(II), which subsequently increases the peak current value.

Liver cancer is globally the most frequent fatal malignancy, and its identification is critical for making clinical decisions about treatment options. Pathological diagnostics and contemporary imaging technologies provide insufficient information for tumor identification. Hydrogen peroxide (HO), an emerging biomarker is a powerful oxidant found in the tumor microenvironment, and stimulates the invasion, proliferation, and metastasis of liver cancer cells.

Dimetridazole (DMT), a nitroimidazole used in veterinary medicine for treating protozoan infections, poses significant carcinogenic and mutagenic risks, necessitating precise monitoring to ensure food safety. We report the development of an advanced electrochemical sensor based on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with a nanostructured cassiterite (SnO)/carbon black (CB) composite, synthesized via hydrothermal and sonochemical techniques. The sensor benefits from SnO's high electrical conductivity, chemical stability, and large bandgap, while CB enhances its performance with superior conductivity.
