Aim: The quasi-experimental AKtiV study investigates the effects inpatient-equivalent home treatment (IEHT). This paper describes the study population based on demographic and clinical parameters at baseline and compares the index treatment.

Methods: Over a period of 12 months 200 IEHT users were included in the intervention group (IG) and 200 inpatients were included in the control group (CG). The comparability of the two groups was ensured by propensity score matching (PSM).

Results: In addition to the PSM variables, IG and CG did not differ significantly from each other variables at study inclusion. The duration of the index treatment was significantly longer in the IG (M=37.2 days) compared to the CG (M=27.9 days; p<0.001).

Conclusion: The similarity of the two groups enables comparisons over 12 months, investigating IEHT effects on long-term outcomes.

[Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging of the breast : What can we expect from the future?].

Radiologie (Heidelb)

November 2024

Division of Molecular and Structural Preclinical Imaging, Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-Guided Therapy, Medical University of Vienna, Währinger Gürtel 18-20, 1090, Wien, Österreich.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the significance of multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) in breast cancer diagnostics, emphasizing the need for advanced MRI methods to capture cellular and molecular processes in cancer development.
  • It highlights promising new MRI techniques like BOLD, IVIM, DMI, and CEST, which can noninvasively differentiate breast cancer subtypes and monitor treatment responses.
  • The conclusion stresses that standardizing quantification methods and improving MRI techniques is essential for translating this preclinical research into effective clinical applications.

Childhood Trauma in Clozapine-Resistant Schizophrenia: Prevalence, and Relationship With Symptoms.

Schizophr Bull Open

January 2023

Psychosis Research Unit, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Prestwich, M25 3BL, UK.

Background And Hypothesis: The role of early adversity and trauma is increasingly recognized in psychosis but treatments for trauma and its consequences are lacking. Psychological treatments need to understand the prevalence of these experiences, the relationship with specific symptoms and identify potentially tractable processes that may be targeted in therapy. It was hypothesized that greater adversity, and specifically abuse rather than neglect, would be associated with positive symptoms and specifically hallucinations.

Geriatrics can enable and monitor a holistic care of older people through a comprehensive geriatric assessment in a structured way. Therefore, it must be integrated much more closely with preventive, rehabilitative and acute care units. Geriatrics are not seen in any aspects as a replacement for general practitioners or in-hospital structures but much more as a supplement to them.
