Linezolid toxic optic neuropathy: A case report and review of visual prognosis.

Am J Ophthalmol Case Rep

Department of Neurological Sciences Faculty and Staff, Rush University, Chicago, IL, USA.

Published: December 2023

Purpose: To describe a case of linezolid toxic optic neuropathy in a 71-year-old female and review the relevant literature.

Observations: An adult female with progressive, symmetric vision loss was hypothesized to have linezolid toxic optic neuropathy. Following cessation of linezolid, the patient experienced improvement in visual function over two months.

Conclusions And Importance: Patients diagnosed with linezolid toxic optic neuropathy can expect some return of visual function after cessation. The degree of return does not correlate to the cumulative dose of the drug. The goal of this study was to summarize and add to the current body of literature on the topic.

Antibiotics are prevalent in wastewater treatment plants and are subsequently released into aquatic environments, threatening aquatic organisms and compromising drinking water quality. Consequently, investigating their environmental fate and developing efficient removal processes is crucial. The degradation and fate of the antibiotic drug linezolid were investigated, focusing on the formation of transformation products (TPs).

To promote the accurate administration of linezolid, this study aimed to evaluate its dosage regimens in critically ill patients with varying renal functions. This evaluation was based on a combined analysis of pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD), and toxicodynamic (TD) indices. The percentage of therapeutic target attainment (PTTA) was used as the index for PK/PD/TD, defined as simultaneously meeting two PK/PD criteria (AUC/MIC ≥ 100 and C between 2.

Vancomycin and linezolid: severe cutaneous adverse reactions to drugs.

Expert Opin Drug Saf

December 2024

Department of Pharmacy, Shanghai Children's Medical Center, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs), including Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS), and Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP), pose significant therapeutic challenges. Vancomycin and linezolid have been linked to these life-threatening conditions, necessitating a better understanding of their associated risks.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis using data from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database.
