The transportation of essential items, such as food and vaccines, often requires adaptive multi-temperature control to maintain high safety and efficiency. While existing methods utilizing phase change materials have shown promise, challenges related to heat transfer and materials' physicochemical properties remain. In this study, we present an adaptive multi-temperature control system using liquid-solid phase transitions to achieve highly effective thermal management using a pair of heat and cold sources. By leveraging the properties of stearic acid and distilled water, we fabricated a multi-temperature maintenance container and demonstrated temperature variations of only 0.14-2.05% over a two-hour period, underscoring the efficacy of our approach. Our findings offer a practical solution to address critical challenges in reliable transportation of goods, with potential implications for various fields in physical, engineering, and life sciences.

Microstructure Design of High-Entropy Alloys Through a Multistage Mechanical Alloying Strategy for Temperature-Stable Megahertz Electromagnetic Absorption.

Nanomicro Lett

July 2022

Key Laboratory of Solidification Control and Digital Preparation Technology, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, Liaoning, 116085, People's Republic of China.

Developing megahertz (MHz) electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials with broadband absorption, multi-temperature adaptability, and facile preparation method remains a challenge. Herein, nanocrystalline FeCoNiCrCu high-entropy alloy powders (HEAs) with both large aspect ratios and thin intergranular amorphous layers are constructed by a multistage mechanical alloying strategy, aiming to achieve excellent and temperature-stable permeability and EMW absorption. A single-phase face-centered cubic structure with good ductility and high crystallinity is obtained as wet milling precursors, via precisely controlling dry milling time.

Preparation of multi-temperature responsive elastomers by generating ionic networks in 1,2-polybutadiene using an anionic melting method.

Soft Matter

April 2020

Key Laboratory of Rubber-Plastics Ministry of Education/Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Rubber-Plastics, College of Polymer Science and Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao 266042, People's Republic of China.

The development of reversible networks in elastomers provided unique inspiration for the design of advanced polymers with excellent properties. In this paper, we adopted an anionic melting method to introduce carboxylate groups into 1,2-polybutadiene (1,2-PB), using maleic anhydride as a modifier, and sodium hydride (NaH), calcium hydride (CaH2), and lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH4) as metallization reagents. Na-Based, Ca-based, and Li/Al-based ionic bond networks were constructed in the covalently crosslinked 1,2-PB.

Contemporary divergence in early life history in grayling (Thymallus thymallus).

BMC Evol Biol

December 2011

Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis, Department of Biology, University of Oslo, P, O, Box 1066 Blindern, NO-0316 Oslo, Norway.

Background: Following colonization of new habitats and subsequent selection, adaptation to environmental conditions might be expected to be rapid. In a mountain lake in Norway, Lesjaskogsvatnet, more than 20 distinct spawning demes of grayling have been established since the lake was colonized, some 20-25 generations ago. The demes spawn in tributaries consistently exhibiting either colder or warmer temperature conditions during spawning in spring and subsequent early development during early summer.

Analysis of 16S rRNA sequence diversity is widely performed for characterizing the biodiversity of microbial samples. The number of determined sequences has a considerable impact on complete results. Although the cost of mass sequencing is decreasing, it is often still too high for individual projects.
