Article Synopsis
  • A new method was developed to quantify enantiomeric barbiturates in serum by combining ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (UA-DLLME) with large-volume sample stacking (LVSS) in capillary electrophoresis (CE) for improved sensitivity.
  • The process involves optimizing various parameters such as sample preparation at pH 10.0 and using specific buffers to achieve high enrichment efficiencies, ultimately enhancing detection limits to 0.1 ng/mL.
  • The method demonstrated excellent performance with good linearity and low variability in migration times and peak areas, and it was successfully applied to analyze human serum samples.

Chemical synthesis of grafted cyclotides using a "plug and play" approach.

RSC Chem Biol

Institute for Molecular Bioscience, Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science, The University of Queensland Brisbane Queensland Australia

Cyclotides are a diverse class of plant-derived cyclic, disulfide-rich peptides with a unique cyclic cystine knot topology. Their remarkable structural stability and resistance to proteolytic degradation can lead to improved pharmacokinetics and oral activity as well as selectivity and high enzymatic stability. Thus, cyclotides have emerged as powerful scaffold molecules for designing peptide-based therapeutics.

Research on eusocial bee species like Bombus terrestris is primarily focused on the worker caste, which is why their morphology and anatomy are already well described. This includes the alimentary tract, which is adapted for feeding on nectar and pollen. Located at the transition between crop and ventriculus is a highly specialised compartment, the proventriculus.

An umbrella-inspired snap-on robotic 3D photoacoustic endoscopic probe for augmented intragastric sensing: Proof of concept study.

Photoacoustics

February 2024

School of Information Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University, No. 393 HuaXia Middle Road, Pudong New Dist., 201210, China.

In this paper, we present a novel on-demand modular robotic photoacoustic tomography (PAT) probe integrated into an endoscopic device, potentially for deep intragastric sensing. The proposed solution offers a plug-and-play approach through the use of meso-scale steerable endoscopy and a new 'snap-on' 3D robotic PAT probe that can reconfigure the geometry of the intracorporeal light delivery, inspired by an umbrella structure. Specifically, using the limited esophageal access, steerable endoscopy allows navigation and advancement of a distally mounted robotic add-on for PAT that is folded until it reaches the deep-seated gastric lesion.
