Using item scores and response times in person-fit assessment.

The use of joint models for item scores and response times is becoming increasingly popular in educational and psychological testing. In this paper, we propose two new person-fit statistics for such models in order to detect aberrant behaviour. The first statistic is computed by combining two existing person-fit statistics: one for the item scores, and one for the item response times. The second statistic is computed directly using the likelihood function of the joint model. Using detailed simulations, we show that the empirical null distributions of the new statistics are very close to the theoretical null distributions, and that the new statistics tend to be more powerful than several existing statistics for item scores and/or response times. A real data example is also provided using data from a licensure examination.

Background: Adequate surgical treatment of intra-articular calcaneal fractures is challenging. Current clinical evidence on the superiority of either the extended lateral approach (ELA) or the sinus tarsi approach (STA) and their impact on radiologic and functional outcome remains inconclusive, and studies are characterized by low case numbers and short follow-up periods. We hypothesized that using STA would lead to fewer complications and revisions, without impairing fracture reduction or short- to midterm outcome.

The posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Checklist for (; PCL-5) was designed and validated to track symptoms over the past month (PCL-5-M), yet an untested ad hoc weekly version (PCL-5-W) is commonly used to track changes during treatment. We used archival data of clinical trials for the treatment of PTSD in veterans to assess the construct validity of PCL-5-W. Both PCL-5-M and PCL-5-W were found to have configural measurement invariance across four consecutive administrations.
