Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the main principal causes of cancer death, and the late definite diagnosis limits therapeutic approaches in time. The early diagnosis of HCC is essential, and the previous investigations on the biomarkers inferred that the γ-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) level could indicate the HCC process. Herein, a near-infrared fluorescence/photoacoustic (NIRF/PA) bimodal probe, , was developed for monitoring the GGT level and thus to image the HCC process. After the in-solution tests, the bimodal response was convinced. The various HCC processes were imaged by at the cellular level. Then, the CCl-induced HCC (both induction and treatment) and the subcutaneous and orthotopic xenograft mice models were selected. All throughout the tests, achieved NIRF and PA bimodal imaging of the HCC process. In particular, could effectively realize 3D imaging of the HCC nodule by visualizing the boundary between the tumor and the normal tissue. The information here might offer significant guidance for the dynamic monitoring of HCC in the near future.

Metabolic reprogramming plays a critical role in in tumorigenesis and progression, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The Solute Carriers (SLCs) family is responsible for the transport of a range of nutrients and has been linked to various cancers. Cancer stem cells (CSC) are a contributing factor to the recurrence and metastasis of HCC.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common primary malignancy of the liver and has a high mortality. Major facilitator superfamily domain containing 2 (MFSD2A) was previously demonstrated to inhibit tumor progression in several cancers. Here, we elucidated the association between MFSD2A expression and HCC progression and also investigated the underlying mechanism.

Humans have more than 270,000 lncRNAs. Among these, lncRNA HOXA-AS2 is considered a transformative gene involved in various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. Thus, it can be regarded as a potential tumor marker for both diagnosis and prognosis.

The role of oxidative stress metabolism during hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) formation potentially allows for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of oxidative stress activity for early and precise HCC detection. However, there is currently limited data available on oxidative-stress-related PET imaging for longitudinal monitoring of the pathophysiological changes during HCC formation. This work aimed to explore PET-based longitudinal monitoring of oxidative stress metabolism and determine the sensitivity of [18F]-5-fluoroaminosuberic acid ([18F]FASu) for assessing pathophysiological processes in diethylnitrosamine (DEN) induced rat HCC.
