Relaxor ferroelectric film capacitors exhibit high power density with ultra-fast charge and discharge rates, making them highly advantageous for consumer electronics and advanced pulse power supplies. The Aurivillius-phase bismuth layered ferroelectric films can effectively achieve a high breakdown electric field due to their unique insulating layer ((BiO) layer)). However, designing and fabricating Aurivillius-phase bismuth layer relaxor ferroelectric films with optimal energy storage characteristics is challenging due to their inherently stable ferroelectric properties.

Inspired by the ultrafast directional water transport structure of Sarracenia trichomes, hierarchical textured surfaces with specific microgrooves were prepared based on laser processing combined with dip modification, in response to the growing problem of freshwater scarcity. The prepared surfaces were tested for droplet transport behavior to investigate the relationship between the surface structure and the driving force of directional water transport and their effects on the water transport distance and water transport velocity. The results showed that surfaces with a superhydrophobic background associated channels of multirib structures, and a dual-gradient surface of gradient hydrophobic background associated channels with gradient structure performed the best in terms of water transport efficiency.

Ultrafast thermal switches are pivotal for managing heat generated in advanced solid-state applications, including high-speed chiplets, thermo-optical modulators, and on-chip lasers. However, conventional phonon-based switches cannot meet the demand for picosecond-level response times, and existing near-field radiative thermal switches face challenges in efficiently modulating heat transfer across vacuum gaps. To overcome these limitations, we propose an ultrafast thermal switch design based on pump-driven transient polaritons in asymmetric terminals.

The evolution of photosynthetic reaction centers (RCs) from anoxygenic bacteria to higher-order oxygenic cynobacteria and plants highlights a remarkable journey of structural and functional diversification as an adaptation to environmental conditions. The role of chirality in these centers is important, influencing the arrangement and function of key molecules involved in photosynthesis. Investigating the role of chirality may provide a deeper understanding of photosynthesis and the evolutionary history of life on Earth.

High-harmonic generation (HHG) is a nonlinear process in which a material sample is irradiated by intense laser pulses, causing the emission of high harmonics of incident light. HHG has historically been explained by theories employing a classical electromagnetic field, successfully capturing its spectral and temporal characteristics. However, recent research indicates that quantum-optical effects naturally exist or can be artificially induced in HHG, such as entanglement between emitted harmonics.
