The foaming behavior of semi-crystalline polymers is significantly affected by their crystallization. To achieve high expansion ratio of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) foams, we thought its cold crystallization should be restricted. Therefore, we used a short soaking time of CO to fabricate high-expansion PLA foams. Dynamic mechanical analysis of unfoamed PLA showed that only one rubbery plateau was observed owing to complete cold crystallization under a soaking time of 40 min at 10 MPa. The crystal morphology demonstrated that a short soaking time of 3 min could restrict the cold crystallization of PLA. Owing to plasticization of CO, PLA crystallization of was accelerated at low temperatures (40-80 °C) but hindered at high temperatures (80-130 °C) at 10 MPa. Foaming results showed that under a soaking time of 3 min, a high expansion ratio exceeding 10 was achievable over a wide foaming temperature range of 90 to 115 °C because more amorphous regions were preserved at 10 MPa. In addition, the prepared foams presented an oriented cellular structure. Compared with the isotropic foam, the anisotropic foam exhibited higher compressive strength and heat resistance. The prepared PLA foams have good application prospects in the fields such as cushioning, packaging, and construction.

Possible glendonite mineral pseudomorphs in the aftermath of the end-Permian extinction.

Glendonites (from the precursor of ikaite, CaCO.6HO) preferentially precipitate within sediments in cold waters (- 2 to 7°C) via either organotrophic or methanogenic sulphate reduction. Here, we report the first occurrence of possible glendonites associated with the end Permian mass extinction in the earliest Triassic (ca.

This work prepared the soy protein isolate (SPI)-beeswax-based bigel loaded with β-carotene, and the effect of printing temperature (PT) on texture regulation was investigated. During printing, increasing PT weakened the rheological properties and printability of ink. However, the mechanical strength and deformation resistance at non-linear regions of products were strengthened after printing.

We report the pressure-temperature (-) phase diagram, the origin of the subglass dynamics, and the crystallization kinetics of the biobased polyester poly(ethylene 2,5-furanoate) (PEF), through dielectric spectroscopy (DS) measurements performed as a function of temperature and pressure. The phase diagram comprises four different "phases"; glass, quenched melt, crystalline, and normal melt. The cold crystallization temperature, , increases linearly with pressure (according to the Clausius-Clapeyron equation) as / ∼ 240 K·GPa and is accompanied by a small change in specific volume (Δ = 0.

Effect of freezing and thawing on ejaculated sperm and subsequent pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in IVF.

Background: Techniques for sperm cryopreservation have exhibited their potential in male fertility preservation. The use of frozen-thawed sperm in fertilization (IVF) cycles is widespread today. However, many studies reported that cryopreservation might have adverse effects on sperm DNA integrity, motility, and fertilization, probably due to cold shock, intra- and extracellular ice crystals, and excess reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Six new sesquiterpenes, including four eremophilane derivatives fureremophilanes A-D (-) and two acorane analogues furacoranes A and B ( and ), were characterized from the culture extract of the cold-seep derived fungus CS-280 co-cultured with autoclaved QDIO-4. All the six compounds were highly oxygenated especially and with infrequent epoxyethane and tetrahydrofuran ring systems. The structures of - were established on the basis of detailed interpretation of 1D and 2D NMR and MS data.
