Equine rotavirus A (ERVA) is the leading cause of diarrhea in foals, with G3P[12] and G14P[12] genotypes being the most prevalent. Recently, equine G3-like RVA was recognized as an emerging infection in children, and a group B equine rotavirus (ERVB) was identified as an emergent cause of foal diarrhea in the US. Thus, there is a need to adapt molecular diagnostic tools for improved detection and surveillance to identify emerging strains, understand their molecular epidemiology, and inform future vaccine development. We developed a quadruplex TaqMan RT-qPCR assay for differentiation of ERVA and ERVB and simultaneous G-typing of ERVA strains, evaluated its analytical and clinical performance, and compared it to (1) a previously established ERVA triplex RT-qPCR assay and (2) standard RT-PCR assay and Sanger sequencing of PCR products. This quadruplex RT-qPCR assay demonstrated high sensitivity (>90%)/specificity (100%) for every target and high overall agreement (>96%). Comparison between the triplex and quadruplex assays revealed only a slightly higher sensitivity for the ERVA NSP3 target using the triplex format (-value 0.008) while no significant differences were detected for other targets. This quadruplex RT-qPCR assay will significantly enhance rapid surveillance of both ERVA and ERVB circulating and emerging strains with potential for interspecies transmission.

Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC), although rare in young individuals worldwide, is significantly influenced by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Considering EBV's widespread prevalence, understanding its role in NPC's future occurrence, disease progression, clinical symptoms, metastatic tendencies, and prognosis is crucial. In this study, we extensively analyzed two young patients with NPC, who displayed distinct clinical features.

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of Affiliated Yueqing Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Yueqing, China.

Tumor cell stemness plays a pivotal role in generating functional heterogeneity within tumors and is implicated in essential processes such as drug resistance, metastasis, and cell proliferation. Therefore, creating novel tumor diagnostic techniques and therapeutic plans requires a knowledge of the possible processes that preserve the stem cell-like qualities of cancers. Bioinformatics analysis of NOLC1 expression in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and prediction of its upstream transcription factors and their binding sites were completed.

Inflammation alters the expression and activity of the mechanosensitive ion channels in periodontal ligament cells.

Eur J Orthod

December 2024

Division of Paediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong Kong, 34 Hospital Road, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong SAR, China.

Background: Periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) possess mechanotransduction capability, vital in orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and maintaining periodontal homeostasis. The study aims to elucidate the expression profiles of mechanosensitive ion channel (MIC) families in PDLCs and how the inflammatory mediator alters their expression and function, advancing the understanding of the biological process of OTM.

Methods And Methods: Human PDLCs were cultured and exposed to TNF-α.

Background: Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SIONFH) is a universal hip articular disease and is very hard to perceive at an early stage. The understanding of the pathogenesis of SIONFH is still limited, and the identification of efficient diagnostic biomarkers is insufficient. This research aims to recognize and validate the latent exosome-related molecular signature in SIONFH diagnosis by employing bioinformatics to investigate exosome-related mechanisms in SIONFH.
