Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a type of steatosis caused by excess lipids accumulating in the liver. The prevalence of NAFLD has increased annually due to modern lifestyles and a lack of adequate medical treatment. Thus, we were motivated to investigate the bioactive components of Formosan plants that could attenuate lipid droplet (LD) accumulation. In a series of screenings of 3000 methanolic extracts from the Formosan plant extract bank for anti-LD accumulation activity, the methanolic extract of aerial parts of Thunb. showed excellent anti-LD accumulation activity. is an evergreen shrub on which only a few phytochemical and biological studies have been conducted. Here, one new flavonoid (), two new triterpenoids ( and ), and 35 known compounds (-) were isolated from the ethyl acetate layer of aerial parts of via a bioassay-guided fractionation process. Their structures were characterized by 1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, and MS data. Among the isolated compounds, methyl pheophorbide a () efficiently reduced the normalized LD content to 0.3% with a concentration of 20 μM in AML12 cell lines without significant cytotoxic effects. 3--()-Caffeoyloleanolic acid () and methyl pheophorbide a () showed inhibitory effects on superoxide anion generation or elastase release in fMLP/CB-treated human neutrophils (IC < 3.0 μM); they displayed effects similar to those of the positive control, namely, LY294002. These findings indicate that can be used for developing a new botanical drug for managing LD accumulation and against inflammation-related diseases.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious trauma of the central nervous system (CNS). SCI induces a unique lipid-dense environment that results in the deposition of large amounts of lipid droplets (LDs). The presence of LDs has been shown to contribute to the progression of other diseases.

The excessive accumulation of intrahepatic triglyceride (IHTG) in the liver is a risk factor for metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. IHTG can excessively accumulate owing to imbalances in the delivery, synthesis, storage and disposal of fat to, in and from the liver. Although obesity is strongly associated with IHTG accumulation, emerging evidence suggests that the composition of dietary fat, in addition to its quantity, plays a role in mediating IHTG accumulation.

Emerging evidence shows that lipid metabolic reprogramming plays a vital role in tumor metastasis. The effect and mechanism of fatty acids and lipid droplets (LDs), the core products of lipid metabolism, on the metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), need further exploration. In this study, the influence of palmitic acid (PA) and oleic acid (OA) on the migration and invasion ability of OSCC cells was determined by in vitro experiments.

Developing of molecular crystalline materials with light-induced multiple dynamic deformation in space dimension and photochromism on time scales has attracted much attention for its potential applications in actuators, sensoring and information storage. Nevertheless, organic crystals capable of both photoinduced dynamic effects and static color change are rare, particularly for multi-component cocrystals system. In this study, we first report the construction of charge transfer co-crystals allows their light-induced solid-to-liquid transition and photochromic behaviors to be controlled by trans-stilbene (TSB) as an electron donor and 3,4,5,6-Tetrafluorophthalonitrile (TFP) as an electron acceptor.

Mitochondrial function is crucial for hepatic lipid metabolism. Current research identifies two types of mitochondria based on their contact with lipid droplets: peridroplet mitochondria (PDM) and cytoplasmic mitochondria (CM). This work aimed to investigate the alterations of CM and PDM in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) induced by spontaneous type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in db/db mice.
