Background: Pseudocystic inflammatory demyelinating lesions (PIDLs) are poorly described in MS and might represent a diagnostic challenge.
Objectives: We described the clinical, radiological, pathological, and follow-up characteristics of 13 PIDL in 9 MS patients.
Methods: We constituted a single-center retrospective case series of PIDLs in MS, defined on MRI as expansive cyst-like lesions, with a fluid-signal content, and a diameter of 1 cm or more.

A case is presented of an avulsion injury of the left brachial plexus in a woman who--after surgical reconstruction of the plexus--developed a liquid fistula from a giant pseudocyst localized in this area. A prolonged persistence of the pseudocyst resulted in a severe pain syndrome and symptoms of vascular disorders in the upper limb. Since results of local treatment (punctures, pressure dressings) were unsatisfactory, the authors decided to close the liquid fistula by suturing the damaged dural sac by means of laminectomy.

Vasculitis with intramural pseudocyst formation primarily in the cerebellar white matter, but also in nuclei of the medulla, resulted in leakage of IgG and albumin and vacuolation of the neuropil (vasogenic oedema) in brains from chickens with clinical signs of Marek's disease virus (MDV)-induced transient paralysis (TP). Demyelination was absent. Chickens that had recovered from TP had a restored blood-brain-barrier, indicated by the rarity of vasculitis and vascular intramural pseudocysts in the cerebellum.

Four pups in a litter of eight Labrador Retrievers suddenly developed hind limb weakness. In three, paralysis ascended rapidly resulting in quadriplegia, cervical weakness, dysphagia and death. Postmortem examination revealed a severe polyradiculoneuritis in which roots, ganglia, and spinal and cranial nerves were heavily infiltrated by lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages and contained abundant protozoan pseudocysts.
