This study describes the extraction and identification by electrophoretic and spectrometric techniques of protease inhibitor from the medicinal plant as well as investigates their immunomodulatory properties and cell viability. The tubers were subjected to protease inhibitor extractions and characterised using SDS-PAGE and MALDI-TOF. The protein extracts were assessed for activities trypsin inhibition stoichiometry, haemagglutinating, cell viability, NO and TNF-α production inhibition. Concerning the protease inhibitors analysis through SDS-PAGE, the results showed two bands with 11 and 24 kDa, and the MS analysis detected the ions more intense of 4276.795 and 8563.361 in the roasted protein extract. The IC of trypsin inhibition was 0.119 and 0.302 mg L in the roasted and crude tuber, respectively. The protease inhibitors extract from the roasted tubers showed a reduction in the production of NO and TNF-α at concentrations lower than 100 µg mL, without a reduction in cell viability.

Purpose Of Review: To review currently existing knowledge on a new type of antihypertensive treatment, small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting hepatic angiotensinogen.

Recent Findings: Targeting angiotensinogen synthesis in the liver with siRNA allows reaching a suppression of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activity for up to 6 months after 1 injection. This might revolutionize antihypertensive treatment, as it could overcome non-adherence, the major reason for inadequate blood pressure control.

The rise of resistance to antiretroviral drugs due to mutations in human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) protease is a major obstacle to effective treatment. These mutations alter the drug-binding pocket of the protease and reduce the drug efficacy by disrupting interactions with inhibitors. Traditional methods, such as biochemical assays and structural biology, are crucial for studying enzyme function but are time-consuming and labor-intensive.

To investigate anticoagulation effects of nafamostat mesylate(NM) in sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) and its relevant factors. Critically ill patients with kidney disease who were admitted to Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University and underwent SLED treatment from May to August 2024 were retrospectively included. Baseline clinical data were collected, and the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and activated clotting time (ACT) were measured at the arterial end, before the filter, and at the venous end two hours post-NM anticoagulation treatment.

Background: The incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) increases after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). This study aimed to characterize the risk factors of AKI after SAVR.

Methods And Results: We conducted a retrospective registry study based on data from 299 consecutive patients undergoing SAVR.

Background: Acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) has a high mortality, and acute aortic repair is the only curative treatment. In patients treated with factor Xa (FXa) inhibitors, the risk of severe disease-related complications such as cardiac tamponade and hemodynamic shock must be balanced against the potential for severe perioperative bleeding. The aim was to study intraoperative changes in plasma levels of the FXa inhibitor apixaban when using hemoadsorption during acute thoracic aortic repair.
