Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the flipped learning approach on nursing students' learning of patient safety BACKGROUND: Nursing students play an important role in ensuring patient safety. Flipped learning is an effective approach in nursing education related to patient safety. It is a valuable educational approach whose effects should be evaluated and disseminated in the context of patient safety.

Method: This study had a parallel-group randomised controlled trial design. The study was conducted with first-year nursing students enrolled at a university in Turkey. The traditional educational approach was used to teach patient safety in the control group (n = 44) and flipped learning approach was used in the intervention group (n = 45). Data were collected using a demographic information form, achievement test and Patient Safety Competency Self-Evaluation Scale. Data were collected at baseline, after intervention and 6 weeks after intervention.

Results: The intervention group obtained significantly higher mean total scores in the achievement test (post-test and follow-up test, p < 0.001) and the Patient Safety Competence Self-Evaluation Scale than the control group (first measurement and second measurement, p < 0.001).

Conclusion: Flipped learning positively affected students' knowledge of patient safety and their self-assessment of knowledge-skill-attitudes. It is recommended that the flipped learning approach be used to teach patient safety.

Background: Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Anticoagulants are widely used in the prevention of VTE in NS patients. The use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has not been studied intensively in NS patients.

Background: Educational research highlights active approaches to learning are more effective in knowledge retention and problem-solving. It has long been acknowledged that adapting to more active ways of learning form part of the challenge for new university students as the pedagogical distance between the didactical approach largely followed by secondary school systems the world over differs quite significantly from the often more student-led, critical approach taken by universities. University students encounter various learning challenges, particularly during the transition from secondary school to university.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of liposomal bupivacaine (LB) as part of an opioid-sparing multimodal analgesic protocol on postoperative pain control in cats undergoing limb amputation surgery compared with traditional pain management protocols more heavily reliant on injectable opioid and non-opioid analgesics.

Methods: Medical records of 29 cats that underwent forelimb or hindlimb amputation were reviewed to evaluate postoperative systemic pain medications utilized, appetite and time to discharge as presumptive gauges of postoperative pain. Statistical analysis of the data included Wilcoxon's rank-sum test and Fisher's exact test.

The rapid development and worldwide distribution of COVID-19 vaccines is a remarkable achievement of biomedical research and logistical implementation. However, these developments are associated with the risk of a surge of substandard and falsified (SF) vaccines, as illustrated by the 184 incidents with SF and diverted COVID-19 vaccines which have been reported during the pandemic in 48 countries, with a paucity of methods for their detection in supply chains. In this context, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation-time of flight (MALDI-ToF) mass spectrometry (MS) is globally available for fast and accurate analysis of bacteria in patient samples, offering a potentially accessible solution to identify SF vaccines.

Cryptococcal pneumonia is a severe fungal infection of the respiratory system, predominantly caused by Cryptococcus neoformans. Its incidence is increasing, driven by evolving pathogen dynamics and heightened susceptibility among patient populations. This investigation aimed to assess the combined therapeutic efficacy of Fluconazole and Amphotericin B for cryptococcal pneumonia and to explore the roles of miR-15b and TGF-β1 in modulating treatment response.
