This is the case series of three patients of infectious crystalline keratopathy (ICK) presented to us after undergoing penetrating keratoplasty between 2010 to 2020. The lesions showed classical crystalline patterns and clinical diagnosis was made. The patients were treated by broad spectrum antibiotics till the complete resolution of the lesions. The cases highlight the clinical features, diagnosis and management of this rare and resistant disease.

Progress in the application of functionalized covalent organic framework for bioanalysis.

Biosens Bioelectron

March 2025

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Key Laboratory for Zoonosis Research of the Ministry of Education, School of Public Health, Jilin University, Changchun, 130021, China. Electronic address:

As a new type of crystalline porous polymer materials, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with their unique features such as large surface area, tunable pore sizes, strong π-π stacking effect and size exclusion effects, have attracted wide attention in the analytical field. Due to the lack of catalytically active metal centers in bare COFs, functionalized COFs that are hybridized or modified with nanomaterials improve reactive activation and show better analytical performance for a variety of detection scenarios with complex analytes. Herein, we focused on the functionalized COFs used in bioanalysis ranging from nucleic acids, peptides, and proteins, to microorganisms, and discussed the functionalization strategy and unique structures and properties applied in the different stages of biosensing and advantages compared to other hybrid materials.

Background: Influenza, a seasonal infectious disease, has consistently posed a formidable challenge to global health in recent years. Favipiravir, an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase inhibitor, serves as an anti-influenza medication, currently administered solely in oral form for clinical use. However, achieving an effective therapeutic outcome often necessitates high oral doses, which can be accompanied by adverse effects and suboptimal patient adherence.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system (CNS), which is linked to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, preceding the disease. The molecular mechanisms underlying this connection are only partially understood. We previously described molecular mimicry between the EBV transcription factor EBV nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1) and three human CNS proteins: anoctamin-2 (ANO2), alpha-B crystallin (CRYAB), and glial cellular adhesion molecule (GlialCAM).

Infectious Crystalline Keratopathy Following Initiation of Mycophenolate Mofetil.

Ocul Immunol Inflamm

February 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, New York, New York, USA.

Purpose: To present a case of infectious crystalline keratopathy (ICK) associated with recent initiation of systemic mycophenolate mofetil (MMF).

Methods: Retrospective case report.

Results: A 68-year-old man with prior Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) in his right eye developed graft failure and was scheduled for a second DSAEK.

Background: Understanding antimicrobial use practices in goats is essential to ensuring appropriate antimicrobial stewardship.

Objective: To describe antimicrobial prescriptions in periparturient does admitted to veterinary teaching hospitals and to determine if any factors were associated with the administration of antimicrobials in general or ceftiofur in particular.

Animals: One hundred ninety-eight periparturient does presented to nine university veterinary hospitals from October 2021 to June 2022.
