Background: Anabolic resistance accelerates muscle loss in aging and obesity, thus predisposing to sarcopenic obesity.
Methods: In this retrospective analysis of a randomized clinical trial, we examined baseline predictors of the adaptive response to three months of home-based resistance exercise, daily physical activity, and protein-based, multi-ingredient supplementation (MIS) in a cohort of free-living, older males ( = 32).
Results: Multiple linear regression analyses revealed that obesity and a Global Risk Index for metabolic syndrome (MetS) were the strongest predictors of Δ% gains in lean mass (TLM and ASM), LM/body fat ratios (TLM/%BF, ASM/FM, and ASM/%BF), and allometric LM (ASMI, TLM/BW, TLM/BMI, ASM/BW), with moderately strong, negative correlations to the adaptive response to polytherapy r = -0.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among individuals 18-75 years old in Qamdo, a KBD-endemic area. All individuals received physical and radiological examinations before recruitment.

Sarcopenia is a significant factor contributing to poor prognosis; however, the clinical diagnosis of sarcopenia remains difficult in surgical patients. This systematic review aims to identify the biomarkers of sarcopenia as diagnostic and predictive tools in patients admitted for hip fracture surgery.

: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots for obtaining healthcare advice is greatly increased in the general population. This study assessed the performance of general-purpose AI chatbots in giving nutritional advice for patients with obesity with or without multiple comorbidities. : The case of a 35-year-old male with obesity without comorbidities (Case 1), and the case of a 65-year-old female with obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, sarcopenia, and chronic kidney disease (Case 2) were submitted to 10 different AI chatbots on three consecutive days.

: Osteoporosis is prevalent in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), with risk increasing as CKD progresses, subsequently elevating fracture risk. While previous studies have shown a link between low skeletal muscle mass and osteoporosis in the general population, there is limited research exploring this relationship in patients with advanced CKD (stages 3-5D). This study aimed to evaluate whether skeletal muscle area (SMA), as measured by abdominal CT, is correlated with bone mineral density (BMD) in advanced CKD patients beginning hemodialysis.
