Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu decoction (HGWD) is an effective traditional Chinese medicine prescription, which is used for treating blood arthralgia in the clinic. However, its material basis has not been studied yet. Herein, a new and highly sensitive ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-MS (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS) technique is proposed and used for the high-resolution and accurate identification of the material basis of HGWD. Seventy-eight compounds have been identified in HGWD. The advantages of information-dependent acquisition (IDA), sequential window acquisition of all theoretical fragment-ion spectra (SWATH), and MS in the quantitative and qualitative analyses of compounds were compared. For the identification of compounds, the best mode with the highest accuracy is the IDA. For the quantification of compounds, MS shows the best repeatability and linearity. This research provides a theoretical basis for the study of quality control of traditional Chinese medicine preparations.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the most prevalent microvascular complication of diabetes and Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Decoction (HGWD) is frequently employed in classical Chinese medicine for treating DPN. This study aims to investigate the potential therapeutic targets and mechanisms of HGWD for treating DPN using network pharmacology and molecular docking methodologies. The intersection targets of DPN and HGWD were retrieved from the databases, with the resulting intersection targets being imported into the STRING database to construct the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network.

Article Synopsis
  • The traditional Chinese medicine formula Huangqi-Guizhi-Wuwutang (HGW) has been found to improve sperm production and tackle spermatogenesis dysfunction.
  • The study employed mass spectrometry and network pharmacology to identify key bioactive components of HGW, such as dihydrocinnacasside, isomucronulatol, and 6-gingerol, and revealed how these components interact with spermatogenic stem cells (SSCs) and other factors.
  • Experimental results showed that administration of HGW in mice significantly enhanced SSC proliferation and improved oligospermia, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic option for sperm production issues.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a catastrophic condition associated with spinal nerve damage, which can lead to complete or partial loss of sensory and motor functions. Chinese herbal compound prescriptions (CHCP) have shown varying degrees of therapeutic effects on spinal cord injuries. However, there is a significant lack of clinical evidence-based research to substantiate these effects.
