Rod and cone photoreceptor cells are specialized neurons responsible for transforming the information reaching the eyes in the form of photons into the language of neuronal activity. Rods are the most prevalent photoreceptor type, primarily responsible for light detection under conditions of limited illumination. Here we demonstrate that human rods have a morphological organization unique among all described species, whereby the cell soma extends alongside the light-sensitive outer segment compartment to form a structure we have termed the "accessory inner segment.

The use of dolutegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), as a first-line treatment underscores the need for detailed data on INSTI drug resistance mutations (DRMs). Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive data on DRMs INSTI and other HIV drug resistance in Indonesian patients, both pre- and post-treatment.

Purpose: Although both accessory middle cerebral artery (MCA) and accessory anterior cerebral artery (ACA) are not rare anatomical variations, their combination is rare and there are only a limited number of reports of such combinations.
Methods: We report a case of accessory MCA associated with an accessory ACA diagnosed by magnetic resonance angiography (MRA).
Results: A 39-year-old woman visited our hospital because of right facial discomfort.

Betacoronaviruses express a small internal (I) protein that is encoded by the same subgenomic RNA (sgRNA) as the nucleocapsid (N) protein. Translation of the +1 reading frame of the N sgRNA through leaky ribosomal scanning leads to expression of the I protein. The I protein is an accessory protein reported to evade host innate immune responses during coronavirus infection.

Introduction: While roll-your-own tobacco consumption is highest in Europe, increased sales are reported in Latin America. We are unaware of any research that explores the display and advertising of roll-your-own tobacco in this region.
Methods: An observational study was conducted at tobacco-selling points-of-sale (N=2,081) near schools in cities in Argentina, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru between April and July 2023.
