Cost reduction is an often-cited reason to use telemedicine. In assessing telemedicine's cost and value, providers often turn to published cost analyses in the scientific literature for guidance. In this commentary on existing telemedicine cost analysis literature, we discuss the generalizability of these analyses and identify the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research framework to help assess the applicability of a given cost analysis using inner- and outer-setting constructs.

MUTUAL: Towards Holistic Sensing and Inference in the Operating Room.

Med Image Comput Comput Assist Interv

January 2025

Surgical & Interventional Engineering, King's College London, UK.

Embodied AI (E-AI) in the form of intelligent surgical robotics and other agents is calling for data platforms to facilitate its development and deployment. In this work, we present a cross-platform multimodal data recording and streaming software, MUTUAL, successfully deployed on two clinical studies, along with its ROS 2 distributed adaptation, MUTUAL-ROS 2. We describe and compare the two implementations of MUTUAL through their recording performance under different settings.

Neoadjuvant or perioperative immunotherapy for resectable melanoma: The need for biomarkers.

Eur J Cancer

January 2025

National Center for Cancer Immune Therapy, Department of Oncology, Copenhagen University Hospital, Herlev, Denmark. Electronic address:

Groundbreaking studies have reshaped the treatment landscape for patients with resectable stage ≥IIIB melanoma by demonstrating the benefits of neoadjuvant therapy. Data from the NADINA and SWOG S1801 trials reveal substantial improvements in event-free survival compared to adjuvant therapy alone. These studies employed distinct neoadjuvant immunotherapy approaches - ipilimumab plus nivolumab in NADINA and anti-PD-1 monotherapy in SWOG S1801 - highlighting potential differences in efficacy and toxicity.

In the last months, conflicting evidence on a possible association between the use of semaglutide and incident nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) has emerged. A recently published study, which evaluated all patients with type 2 diabetes in Denmark, has shown with robustness that once-weekly semaglutide doubles the five-year risk of NAION. In this comment, the new evidence is discussed, along with practical implications for type 2 diabetes patients.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into health communication systems has introduced a transformative approach to public health management, particularly during public health emergencies, capable of reaching billions through familiar digital channels. This paper explores the utility and implications of generalist conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) advanced AI systems trained on extensive datasets to handle a wide range of conversational tasks across various domains with human-like responsiveness. The specific focus is on the application of generalist CAI within messaging services, emphasizing its potential to enhance public health communication.
